Should Justin get a Harley, or a crotch rocket?

There's a small debate going on between myself and a buddy of mine right now. I've decided that I'm getting another motorcycle, and I've pretty much got my heart set on the Harley that I want, but my buddy says I'm not a Harley kind of guy. Should I get a Harley or a sport bike? That's the question.

also guys, be aware that I'm not buying new. not sure if that changes opinions or not. I've got my eyes set on one or two bikes of both types that are private party.
 
BOTH! I've had both, and enjoy them both for different reasons. If it's for back and forth to work, and cruising, get a harley. If you don't ever plan on being near a track get the harley. If you want to look like every other dumb f@ck on bragg with a rice rocket that doesn't know how to handle that kind of power, get the crotch rocket.


However, If I were in the market for a NEW cruiser, I'd be looking at a Victory, and there is a dealer in Fayetteville, check them out.


All that said, I miss the 183 WHP crotch rockett my brother and i had.
 
I had a 636 that got stolen in August of last year from my apartment in Spring Lake. after that happened and my insurance company paid what they felt the bike was worth (NOT what I owed on it), and I paid the rest out of my pocket ($3500), I decided to piss on Spring Lake and everybody in it and bought a house in Hope Mills...with a garage...and decided I WOULD have another bike since I have a place to let it sleep now.

I liked going fast on the 636, but the wife absolutely hated riding. she was scared and uncomfortable. I've wanted a Harley since I was little, and I have a chance to get a pretty good deal on one right now. I don't run around with many Harley guys though, so that's one reason I'm bouncing back and forth.
 
I had a '06 GSXR 600 for a year and it was fun but pretty much useless besides going fast. I tried commuting to work on in and that failed miserably. I tried to make excuses but really a sport bike isn't for me. I like all types of bikes but I've come to realize that if it is just to fit a certain image and doesn't fit your lifestyle, then you'll never really enjoy it or ride it for that matter. Basically mine sat in the garage for over 80% of the time I had it = wasted money.

If I could do it over again I would get some kind of cruiser that's is comfortable to ride longer distances and possibly with my wife. Sure the gofast is fun, but really unless your 21 and your ego has to match your bikes it's simply a waste. I know you like Harley's but to me it costs too much for that Orange. I've been interested in taking an older 80's model jap. crusier and bobbing it or finding something like a "brat style" bike. But that's just me.

Buy the bike that you will use not the one that your buddies like.

I voted for the crotcher. I'm with your friend. You don't seem like the harley type.

HOWEVER, it really depends on what you want to do with the bike. If you want to cruise and take scenic routes the Harley is for you. If you want to go fast and look sporty, well then you know what to go for. Personally, if you plan to have the wife ride with you often I would go for the Harley. If it's going to be you, then you seem more of the crotch rocket type. ;) Beware though.. Harleys don't end with just buying the bike. You'll want to change things up and that shit gets expensive as crap. I'm glad I sold my harley. It was a money pit.
 
the metric cruisers are a blast to ride and wont cost what a HD will. I've rode both and really the only difference is weight (and cost if I havent said it already). like Funk Skunk said get the one you'll use and not what others think is cool. I really like that Yamaha pictured above! I'll have me somethin' like that if I ever get around to building it.
 
dont buy either..... build the hell out of that toyota so u can keep up with me on the trail!!!!!!!!!! but if you gotta get a bike get a rocket or a soft-tail standard hd or wide glide
 
if you have to ask someone else what kind of bike you want then you sure don't want to invest to much money into one so harley is out. i have rode them and nothing else all my life and can tell you that the last 10 or 12 years the cost of the bike is nothing compaired to what you will spend on add on's. it has gotten crazy since everybody and there grandmother has become a weekend biker. most of the rice burners are building some really goodlooking v twins these days a hell of a lot cheaper. had to replace speedometer on an 05 springer with only 2800 miles and when i ask what happen to it they told me it was wore out. WITH 2800 MILES???????????????
 
why not just get best of both worlds a Harley and a sport bike like this one. It's a power cruiser all the ego massaging power of a sport bike with the comfort of a cruiser. I didn't vote since I have never actually rode a bike and the fact that I just have a bad taste from living in Rapid City SD for 9yrs. Having to deal with thousands of bikers every year for the Sturgis rally I've had my fill.

Well I voted crotch rocket, but only because I feel HD is completely overpriced and overrated. Only HD I would own is a vrod. Personally would recommend a nice metric cruiser since your wife wants to ride. I'm a big fan of the Yamaha Raider and Warrior.

Or if you just want a bar hopper or around town bike, pick up a cheap Jap bike from the 70's or 80's. I bought a 77 Honda CB750 for $200 and will have less than $1,000 in it when I'm done. No worries about theft, dents or anything else. That wasn't the case with the Ducati I had before.
