35 spline hub advice

and it does seem that may very well be what has to happen.

I also would like to see pictures of this machine.

I will be out there in the field with a little file & wire brush custom fitting the Yukons before the spindles are redesigned.

is it possible to design a hub specifically for this? Take a warn hub and have the parts heat or cryo-treated?

Now that's a good idea. I will run this past my customer. Thanks

Im not sure what is breaking in their parts, but likely not much different than what we see. Also not sure on the material or treatment on the lockouts. Likely it could be treated, or replacement parts made from a stronger material. RCV makes 300m: Locking Hub 300M Gear Upgrade – Dana 60.

It's the fuse, then after a while. Complete failure.

I mentioned the cryo treatment. While it may work, the answer was no due to modifying a part & liability.

Looks like I will be buy some files & and custom fitting these damn things. She is going with the Yukons. ugh...

Thanks for trying to help me.

"Yes we do custom fit parts. Yes, the cost is a little more. Thank you for your business"

BTW, aren't you modifying a part?

Meh... not really. Just polishing to perfect fit. And yes, I told her the cost will be substantially more for the install. Customer is good with it.

The part you are going to have to polish, what's it made out of?

My thought instead of filing every one at a cost,

Could you remote heat treat each one prior to install, or during service.

The heat treatment wouldn't be for strength, but to encourage shrinkage through cooling to make it fit better. I.e: to make inside diameter slightly larger.

A lot of variables go into that, but just my first idea to change the part dimensionally without grinding/polishing.

The next though would be to set up a junk stub shaft to fixture and restrict movement while heating so that desired shrink is achieved.

While that's a good idea. Customer would not go for that. She has made up her mind. you know, stubborn woman..
