35s on an xj with no lift.

Ok, sorry for the delay. Been wayyy to busy to work on her. Took it out to Uwharrie, after installing a two inch lift. Coil spacers in the front. nothing in the rear. She did great but I still need to work out some bugs. Have to drop the tank and clean it or get a new one. That was the spoiler for me. I had it off the trailer just long enough to run dickey bell, then she died. So I parked it in the garage, and there she sits. Until next month that is. I just traded a Bent Warn Bumper for a set of Full width HP D44 front and 9 incher for the rear. Not bad I thought. So I didnt forget her, just been busy.

my buddy has a 3" rear Fabtech shackle set i bet he'll sell you for near bout nothin. ill check and PM you.
 
Well I have a set of leaves that are going to go in soon, Lift is about 1.5 inches for the rear, And plans for the winter are a camper like shell on the rear. Just have to get some things planned out but Its going to be a three door XJ with the bottom half of the rear door opening as normal and the top half opening up towards the top. It will be a panel truck style with the rear having no windows. I just want to keep the dare to be different thing going. Its too much fun not to .

I love this man looks wild as hell, and the whole " if the shoe dont fit make it" concept haha nothing like a good cut job on a little lift to stuff some big cleats on a jeepsta! Rock on bro!
 
Oh Wow, Can't believe I havent updated this. Ok so I started fabbing up a tire carrier for the xj. I have nothing into it but welding wire. Steel and hardware were free ;) Gotta love that. I realize the drivers side is still long. It will be trimmed down to make a latch. About the only thing I have left is to make the tire mount on it. I tested it and it picked up my riding mower and still swung freely.

so I still have been workin on the ol xj. Ran out of wire today, so while the wife is out getting some more, I thought I would make a top for it. Gettin kinda cold after all. Also fixed the broken doors so that They will work again. They look like crap but they work.
 
Tonight I freed up a little bit of time and finished up my spare tire carrier. I got the carrier plate from a buddies wrangler....keeping with the cheap theme. All in all Im pretty pleased with it so far.

Are you running stock axles on there? if so planning on doing a cheap swap?
 
On the first of december I will be going home to get my axles. Full width ford 9 inch and a dana 44 from a 76 f 150. Should fit pretty good.
 
Wow Been awhile. Things have been chuggin along. Weather has finally cooperated so some things got done recently. starting off, I replaced the Dana 30 with a dana 30 non disconnect.

After that was done I moved on to diagnosing the horrendous death wobble. Tracked it down to alignment issues and a worn steering stabilizer. No biggy, Just kinda hard to slow down a cherokee when its shaking apart. After that I built a back window from a softop humvee.....Yep That humvee......:rofl:

While I was doing the window I redid the bottom of my softop and made it look a lot cleaner and more durable. When I built it it was the verge of winter and I was just looking to keep it dry inside. I think it came out kinda cool looking.

Well I Bit the bullet.....I shaved the doorhandles and filled the gaps in the door frames. I hate bodywork. HATE HATE HATE. But for my first time ever working with bondo I can live with it.

So what are the talks of a 9" and 44?? That thing would look tits on full widths.

LOVE IT... Was thinking of doing this to my other zj except leave it 4 doors what is the top off of? If ya feel froggy you could put coils on the rear and throw pucks all way around would help the 35s flex without huge lift!?!?!?!? Just a thought! Awesome buld tho
 
How's your uptravel in the front? I'm on 38's with 5-6" of lift in the front and I'm finding my tires are my bump stops. Throws my weight way off and makes my asshole pucker.
 
Yea I still have a little to clear up front and I know exactly how you feel about your tires being bumpstops. It does handle different than any other vehicle Ive ever driven and takes a little getting used to for sure. I was spinning some donuts in my back field and well I didnt make a single one. Its just too soft and The body roll with it was horrendous. Sway bar will definately be going back on.

The top was a Army LMTV 2 1/2 ton Truck. Its a rubber type canvas with cloth impregnated in it. Pretty durable stuff. I was toying with coils but I want some stability in the rear of it. Its squirrley enough right now.


As for the D44 and 9 incher, I sold them a while back. At the time They would have cost me more to set them up than I had and I wanted to throw some money into it so away they went.:rolleyes: Oh well such is life.
