He has a avalanche with a 454
This is where the gas vs diesel tow rig argument gets quiet7MPG? what are you towing with?

v10 excurison would be my guess!7MPG? what are you towing with?
You calling me grandpa?yeah i get 14 mpg with a total weight of 13-14k (diesel), so doubling your economy is a good argument for a diesel. But if it was the 6.0 he'd be around 11ish mpg towing 6k lbs and driving like grandpa. Thats a tougher sell to goto diesel.
well that will do it. That 454 will pull any hill but wont pass a gas station.
ff:He has a avalanche with a 454
It's an avalanche with the 8.1.
It averages closer to 8/9 towing on flat ground, 6 in the hills, 3-4 on fancy gap/ black mountain if I hold the speed limit....
I was guessing safe at 7 for a cross country trip, but could easily get 9 if I stay at 65, but that's no fun....
Either way, $1500 entry fee, is ballpark the same fuel cost for me to get to the hammers and back, towing.....
I could probably find a couple spartian races to hit up while on the way, and I'm sure a few ranges to skeet shoot. There will be enough fixing flats and keeping the tow rig and jeep running while out there to count for the trouble shooting part.
I guess I need to start a spinoff thread for the #areyoulogicalenough #wheelthehammers trip. With competitions for skeet shooting, spartian races, and keeping the rigs running obstacles along the way.
Who wants to reserve their spot today? $1500 deposit required as these spots will fill up fast. Details to come later.
:hijack:ff:
Edit my 6.0 Chevy gets worse fuel mileage towing than the 8.1..... The 454 gets better mileage towing than both of them. But Russ is always in the 454, and he stays in my mirrors....
Skip the skeet and spartan crap and just go wheel the hammers. It's worth the trip.
It's on my list.
The spartian races and skeet shooting were just a jab at this comp.
just pointing out the real value of a $1500 Uwharrie competition entry fee.
You could pay for your fuel to get to the hammers and back.

What is your tow rig? That is impressive fuel economy.
I tow with an 01 Ram CTD 4x4 quad cab short bed, and I have gotten a real 13.9 mpg towing my Samurai. That was to the Flats and home. Total weight probably around 11,000 lbs. No windshield on the Sami either. Regular 16' steel deck car hauler. My driving speed is usually right with traffic at about 5-8 mph over the speed limit.
Maybe @snappy will chime in here. There is another thread (dozens actually) on this subject. Snappy broke down the math over gas vs diesel and I think a 10 year/100k mile fuel savings vs initial cost. Gas won actuallyMy yj on the trailer weighs 7400 lbs, and the ava-lanche weighs between 7000-9000 depending on amount of coolers, camping gear, tools, spares etc. Typically loaded I'm around 15k.
What's the break even mileage point for the price difference of diesel vs 87 octane?
Just figuring at the difference of a gas hauler at 9mpg and a diesel at 14 mpg, 87 octane is 2.00/gallon now.
Complete thread hijack....
That was when diesel was .60-.70 gallon more. I did break down and get a diesel but up keep is def higher on the diesel.Maybe @snappy will chime in here. (Obligatory high cost post) Oh yeah, $1500 is way too much for anything at Uwharrie! You guys are killing me.
This thread is supposed to be about the ridiculous price of an event entry, not the ridiculous price of diesel.
