Im deciding wether I want to go to 37s or 38s, and i was curious wether you guys think 37 boggers with detroits front and rear and a very flexy suspension would be adequate for tellico and harlan? I know alot depends on the driver as well, but just let mw know what you think w/ just the vehicle stats. If I can just go to 37s, then that saves me whole hunk of money as I wont have to build and install a 60 rear. Thanks guys.

I rode Tellico on 33's and one locker and did fine. It may take a little more finesse to make the larger obstacles, but then again, thats what this sport is all about.

If you think you're not going to blow up that 8.8 because you're going with 37's over 38's, you're crazy. And when most people say "it will hold up to 37's" they mean a set of radial mud terrains like mtrs or xterrains. The d30 doesn't stand a chance. Even street driving, say goodbye to your balljoints. That being said, at least at tellico, a set of 38" sx's would spank a set of 37" boggers.

^ the diff between a 37 and a 38 on anaxle is pretty minimal.

yeah, I'm having a hard time understanding what the big delimma here is. If you're talking about the same tire, but 1" difference (e.g., both boggers)... come on, that's pretty minimal - only 1/2" difference in height. And if that extra 1/2" is going to cost a lot more, then not worth it IMO.
But if you are debating dsifferent styles, weights of tires, that makes it more complicated.

Never been to Telico, nor did I sleep in a Holiday Inn last night, but I know lots of folks that have been there and back on 33s and 1 locker.

Thanks for the replies. The problem is that im wanting to keep my hp44 and super 8.8. I have a 60, but I cant afford to build it, gear it, lock it, and install it. I guess Im really asking two questions. Can the hp44 and super 8.8 hold up to 37s, and if so, is the bogger a good choice for tellico and harlan. Sorry I wasnt completely clear in my first post but im on some powerful pain pills:smokin:. If I cant run a 37 on my 8.8, then Ill install the 60 and might as well run a 38, but I would like to avoid that.

Sometimes. The difference between a 37" bfg mt and a 38" tsl sx is huge. If we're speaking strictly boggers, the difference in a 37 and 38.5" (there is no 38) bogger is huge too. Not just a 1" difference (and it's more as the 37's are small) but much larger tread blocks and voids. Just saying. Either way, both are too big for a d30.
:edit: And I also assume the reason he's asking about 37's is because people say "the biggest tire you can put on an 8.8 is a 37" as a general statement. They sure as hell aren't talking about a bogger. As another "general statement" 37's means a radial mud terrain, 38 means an interco tire as those are the common mainstays of the two.

The biggest tire you want on either of those axles IMHO is a 35. I run 36's on a D44/9" and have broken the D44 twice before going to alloy shafts.

There's a guy that lives somewhat close to me who has a D30/ 8.8 combo on 38x12.50 TSLs. I've never seen him break them, but he is pushing it with a 2.5L. Regardless, I have seen him get it on those axles. Some people are just lucky I guess.

Sorry man.... 37's just will not work anywhere.... it's 44's or nothing...
Yeah I heard they are'nt gonna let people with less than 42s in Uwharrie anymore:lol: The only thing that makes me think I can run that large of a tire is that ive got the 4 banger, and a fairly light foot.....most of the time.

I have broken the 30 with 33's and a 4 banger. :shaking:

I guess some people have more luck than others as there is always a wide spectrum of opinions on "the biggest tire I can run" question. Alot depends on the driver and how he/she drives. Ill probably run the super 8.8 kit and 37 boggers and see how it does. If I have problems w/ the 44, then Ill go chromo. Thanks for all the replies guys.

I can't believe no one has let him in on the fact that Boggers suck everywhere except in pure mud... and they are VERY hard on axles.

yeah I have no experience with boggers and I should have asked how they did on rocks and terrain other than just mud. I really want to run a 37 and they dont make a TSL or IROK in that size which is why i was leanng toward a bogger.

Rockcrawler1832,

You might wanna change your signature. It says you have a hp30. From what you're saying you have a hp44. That should eliminate some of the confusion.

They make a 37" irok.

Good point..will do. sorry about that. And my mistake, I jumped the gun on the irok as they do make a 37 but im not sure about how well a 37x12.50 would work. Anyone who has used this tire size feel free to chime in.

whats wrong with a 12.50? I ran a 38 12.50 TSLs and was very happy with them.

Don't believe the hype that a 44 isn't stong enough. I have a 44 with chomo axles and joints under a very heavy Bronco with a 460. I beat on it hard and haven't broken it. My vote is go with the 38x12.5x16 TSL. Why 16? That way when you go one ton it will still fit.

37 IROK is a 14.50 IIRC, I run a 36 13.50 IROK

Before you buy iroks go to a big event and watch people with different tires. I know lots of people love iroks, but I see iroks struggle more than any other tire on obsticles.

My brother has a set for sale if you decide to go this route. Just let me know. You start getting wider and the tires start getting heavier.
