3D PRINTING

Had someone want some TPU crawler shocks, so I got the TPU out to give it a try on the Bambu. Printed a tennis ball and a baseball, pretty impressed! Kids snagged the baseball and it's already MIA 🤣.

Going to print a tennis ball in ABS just got the heck of it. The TPU can be squished into a bowl and it pops back.

Printing an arrow fletching jig. This ought to be fun.

38 hours of print time. Little bit of layer separation on the frame, so I might redo it after testing.

At the robotics program we're doing an " engineering Olympics" that requires teams to print things they design. Having logistics troubles bc prints take too long on our single Ultimaker that's on site.

So I made a spontaneous trip by Microcenter today....

At only $250, or $400 with 4color material station these things can't be beat for a learning tool. I may end up buying more so we can send them home w trusted students.

There is a contest on makerworld right now with a floral theme. Can't say I am very creative, or very good with design for that matter, but these were something I kind of accidentally made and I thought they turned out pretty good.

Do me a favor and download them :-D

I've had this on other files I have downloaded before but what is it called when it leaves gaps on the finished surface. Is there a way to change this? Using Cura software.

That's underextrusion. How does the bottom look?
Guessing the flow rate needs to be adjusted.

So things are really about to be cookin' in ol' RatLab's lab.

That's a Form3 resin printer on bottom... And Form3BL on top.
'B' for bio-safe material certified and 'L' for ... Damn that's huge.
The resin wash tank takes 11 gal of IPA. We had to buy a 55gal drum to keep on hand.

Also ... If you have a need for beefy-ass cabinets.... Stronghold is where it's at. These are 3' deep

... And hold >230 lbs extended. The cabinets are around 700 empty.

Something else I've noticed on my prints the bottom layer sticks out past the rest of the print. Is that a z axis adjustment to move it back from the platform?

Yeah your flow rate is way off for the Z height. Basically it isn't extruding enough material per unit time and it drags along to widen out what it is expecting the line width to be. This could be an issue with the z-step calibration not being right (it actually moves farther up than expected) or you need to increase the flow rate in the slicer settings (or something is inhibiting proper flow internally).
Do you get the same effect with other filaments?
Try doing a calibration cube, then measure it. See if the Z height is exactly as expected.
The first layer looks pretty flat and squished on the bottom.

This will be my longest single print ever. Two stocks for "The Fixer" combat rifles from Fallout. I sold one of the pistols on eBay, hoping I can sell another pistol or two and a rifle or two. Bad thing about printing these for my sons is finding the flaws in the original designs, so then you have to modify them to make them stronger, print in less pieces, etc.

This print was 24+ hours, it's my first big multi color print that requires TONS of color changes.

Plan something entertaining for all of the poop waste bc there will be a ton of it.

I wish you could purge ALL into something other than poop, I cut the purge multiplier down to .25, and put a suppressor to purge into as well. Doesn't make sense why it needs the prime tower, but still also purges to the poop chute. I could have definitely painted in the details, but figured it would look good to have it printed, we will see.

You can disable the prime tower - but I wouldn't if this is something you might want to sell.
The tower is there to ensure there is filament right at the tip but not oozing past so that when you start a layer you don't get a zit. Pooping over sir doesn't provide the backpressure necessary to do this. Try removing it and see what happens.

I've started collecting all my PLA based scraps to remelt into artwork.

So far so good. I did figure out that the 3dmax spool didn't work well, but of course it only really started giving issues about midnight. I waited until it got above the circle so it would stop switching filament, then I manually spooked some black onto an old Bambu spool. Since then, it has had a couple constipation issues pooping filament (got stuck in the poop chute). Currently 7+ hours left to go.

Yea I can see that the prime tower doesn't look 'great', so I can see it's definitely needed. I might try to cut down the purge volume to 0.1. I would think as long as it has something (or a couple things) to purge into before hitting the 'good' print, that would make better use of the purge.

35 minutes left in a 25 hour print.... Eating dinner and I heard something fall over. I guess it unstuck from the bed, but all three pieces broke off. It's fixable sort of. I think if I try a long print again I might do a raft for better adhesion. Aside from not finishing, it turned out great.
