I was recently told I could run a 4.11 (maybe he said 4.10) in the rear dana 35 and a 3.07 in the front 30. This is on an 87 YJ 2.5l manual transmission.
Is there any merit to this?

I believe you can get away with an .01 or maybe even a .02 difference in diffs, like a 4.10 in the front and a 4.11 in the rear, but not a 4.10 and a 3.07, not even close. Ask whomever told you that to do it in their rig first, oh and make sure and video it when he shifts into 4wd.

I doubt that a 35/30 combo could handle any gear stagger in anything but in the most slick ass mud.

Mud trucks generally have real axles!

Straight line mud...not hill and hole or Florida pit type stuff. Buddy of mine with Flat Broke Racing out of Va runs ranger bodied tube chassis, 30's in the front of all of his. 800+hp before the juice from 460 based engines, runs a pretty quick 100'. I typically only see it in the smaller/light weight fast stuff though. But out back is always something bigger than 35.
