Hello everyone,

I work for Charlotte Motor Speedway/ Speedway Motorsports Inc. as an intern right now and I have been asked to fill a slot in our summer entertainment series. I was wondering if there is any interest, or if it is even feasible to maybe set up an event/competition through our (local) community. At this point I am in the brainstorming part of the deal, so I would like to get some input. I am not putting in guidelines out there because I would like to see what those on the board think/care... The only criteria I do have is:

-Early August
-Competition type event
-At the speedway
-Need garunteed turn out
-Needs to be over the top
-Will have prize money
-Needs to be professional (my responsibility)

Thanks, looking forward to your responses.
Nic

Is there anyway to work an angle here to raise money for the tellico fight?

i was thinking the same thing and then i scrolled down and was beaten to it....

i think this would be an AWESOME idea as long as its not rediculously expensive such as the auto show. it would be a great way to raise awareness of what the wheeling community is actually about. keep us updated

I would maybe think of a way we/you could setup booths for either clubs or fundraisers/events.... a way to show the community about all of our involvement...

we need to use it as a way to get the offroad community in a good light to those outside it...

I also handle the AutoFair, you have to understand the deal with pricing though, it is directly correlated to the scale of the event. The AutoFair is a three day event with a lot larger budget. As for the event we can work on that, the only problem would be insurance and such... what do you think ECORS has over another series and would those running it feel like their toes were stepped on if I were to step in and atleast take partial control over the event? These are all things to consider right off the bat in order for this ball to keep moving. I would like you understand a more "conventional" event would be alot easier to do for this point in time, I need to have my ducks in a row, and alot of cooperation of the competitors in order to make this a success. If this seems like to much of a stretch we won't consider it but I feel like this is a great way to bring "our" sport into the lime light.

Thanks for the responses!- keep em' coming, Nic

I like that idea with maybe a man made Rock garden and a balancing see-saw,and a few rti ramps for competition

you should find that youtube vid someone posted of the canadian wheeling....take notes. put on event.

I know what an event can look like, i've been doing this awhile. As for the prices, well we had 160K people come out last year, I don't really agree with them; but the prices must be ok for that many people to come out.

As for the big purse for the pros to come out, i'm sorry I do love this sport and I wanna see it go as far as it can but in reality it's only that big to a hand full of people at this point in the whole scheme of things. I feel the biggest problem is how realistic people set their goals for the progression of this sport or any sport for that matter. It takes tens of years to accomplish what most major sports have, and if some big shot dumps a lot of money into a sport thinking its a cash crop it usually doesn't take off like it should. IE XFL, etc.

As for a purse, in an ideal world what would get these so-called "pros" out?

As far as the lay out of the event I have that already figured out and outlined I just need to know what its gonna take for people to actually come out. You have to remember its a one night event so a swap meet and such might be a little far fetched.

Thanks for your replies and I am taking them all seriously. Please understand I am not trying to be negative, but I have to look at this from a management viewpoint not as a patron when I bring this to the table.

Thanks, Nic

just some contructive criticism....dont be so arrogant.

the "public" just told management what they want and management just said thats not gonna happen.

who are you arguing with over pricing? and what pricing are you talking about?

i think your setting the standards low and the expectations high. maybe you shoud let us know what kind of event you want to put and let's see what we can do to help?

I think having a an event like this is a great idea, getting ECORS would be awesome. But why the heck hasn't Bruton Smith tried to tap into some of the offroad racing money. I mean If he would build a track for something like CORR and get it into the circut he could potentialy make millions off it. That stuff is as big as nascar out west and the interest here is growing by the day and it could bring a whole new world of business to the area.

Well I guess I'm just dreaming.

didnt the folks who bought the old wilkesboro track promise to do some offroad stuff?

I didn't know that but it would definitely be nice.

If it were me and I was trying to come up with something to have at the speedway I would be trying to have one of the big known events be held here. Once you get a following then we can worry about having things like the offroad fair and what not. Because if you try to have a small fairly local event and it doesn't bring a good crowd then convincing the powers above to ever do it again are probably far fetched. Atleast with a larger nationaly sanctioned event like corr or werock you have better odds at success. And who knows it may flop just as easy. Just my 2 cents.

yes

this would be very good for us,i have all ready said that there needs to be a 4x4 event there,my very good friend mike gibson is the head plumber and i've told him# of times this should be done,it would let alot more people know about this board.and could be a great event to bring the family to also!

Get an east coast TORC series going. I know Id stop what I'm doing and race it. They're coming there in May aren't they?

Need a guranteed $5k payout at least.
