4wd Community Event at Charlotte Motor Speedway

I
As far as the lay out of the event I have that already figured out and outlined I just need to know what its gonna take for people to actually come out. You have to remember its a one night event so a swap meet and such might be a little far fetched.
If you already have the event figured out then you need to tell us what you are thinking and ask us if we would come to it. Not ask us what to do.

As long as its not the weekend of the NMRA/NMCA racing at Z-Max, count me in.
Lets see something that is "professional" to attract the masses. It's fun to compete and attend more amateur events, but to attract racers that will attract fans it needs to be similar to a major sanctioned event.
My 2 cents

"I think having a an event like this is a great idea, getting ECORS would be awesome. But why the heck hasn't Bruton Smith tried to tap into some of the offroad racing money. I mean If he would build a track for something like CORR and get it into the circut he could potentialy make millions off it. That stuff is as big as nascar out west and the interest here is growing by the day and it could bring a whole new world of business to the area."

I go out west for engine school sometimes, the above statement is very true. Some don't give a rat about IROC uhh, I mean (NASCAR) out west.

I'd like to see;
1. An offroad race (trophy truck/torc/corr style in a closed course at the dirt track, big jumps, some straightaways, S and tight curves),
2. Truggy/buggy/ecors/etc. race on a dirt/some straightaways/tight curves/rock course (no techinical stuff, just quickest wins or best showmanship, KOH kinda stuff)
3. Throw in the Monster Truck race (they could use the tropy truck course and run 2 laps)/long jump from a designated starting spot and make them do grudge pulls also. (no series where the trucks are owned, open it to independants and the other guys if they want to play by your rules - NOT THEIRS) You might finally get a real Bigfoot/Gravedigger showdown not based on "freestyle".
4. Club/Manufacturer/Vendors booths and truggy/buggy/truck/jeep show to wonder through, like a midway at the fair.

5. Sideline events to add later;
Concrete grudge pull pad or (burnout pad?)
Easy rock course for stockers/slightly built to get in on the experince and grow the sport/hobby.
RTI ramps, See Saws, some crushed cars kind'a things to play on.
Side by side races
RC area for those guys if they want to race (gas/electric trucks)

I'm leaving out the only thing I'd do because I know it would be a pain to build on short notice - A soupy mud bog, no thick stuff, the wetter the better, like Ricky's - a little jump up front and then deep at the end.

You could throw in a side by side race on one of those courses, people are really starting to get into them.

You have the summer monster truck "show" coming up. Section of an area/corral up front at the entrance for the nc4x4 crowd to display their different vehicles and gauge the interest from that crowd. Ricky's 4x4 cross stuff, the BDB guys rigs, the Mud Devils rigs, Bottomlands rigs, Marsfabs rigs, Yota guys, whoever else (maybe my junk), don't mean to hurt feelings if I'm leaving notables out, etc

Um yeah - how many of you guys here have to go out west to race???

Yall are right - one track and snowball.
you're lookin at the field of dreams right here - build it and they will come.
You shouldn't have any issues getting sponsors for payouts - HELL its LMS.

yea what he said x2

That was sort'a my drift, just didn't want to start naming all vendors and built rigs.

Ya know I was gonna write a long rant on east vs. west and Nascar and drag racing and .......
but I won't.

So you know what Go look at how the do out it WEST and get some serious sponsors, promote it and THEY WILL COME.

By up some land, build a real track, have a bunch of spectator friendly events - make them sign waivers for Darwin award winners... screw liability.

look at what ECORS is trying to do.
Look at the MayJam that we do.
Now is your chance to get it big here.

Funny how the ever livin image of a redneck is a big truck but the competition is out west.

[/soapbox]

this sounds like a good idea. just need someone to make it happen. id love to plan in advance and save money to be able to go to a show where i can bring my buggy and play on a rock course and buy stuff for my rig. if its in front of me im more pron to buy it other than order it and have to wait. thats why i use to love to going to Goodguys and the auto fair cause i looked forward to it and knew to save money to buy the stuff i wanted.
the people want it , we just need to make something happen.

for what it's worth,
the Pa Jeep club puts on a All Jeep event every year. it's billed as the largest jeep event on east coast...they turn away more jeeps than they can accomodate. In 2010, it will be their 15th show..

i'm not saying just a jeep only event, but something like that included in the above events..

i know a few people up there if you guys are interested.

If the ECORS event interests you, I would certainly be open to discussion.

Call me (803)627-9029 and we can discuss.

I am really wanting to hear more ideas and input, i'm trying to stay out of it as to not skew what the response might be until a little more information is exchanged.

I will be in contact with those of you involved with ECORS shortly.

Keep the responses coming, thanks, Nicodemus

I browsed through the ideas, hopefully this isn't repeated. But check out the Carlisle All-Truck Nationals in PA. Been there once it was pretty sweet, It wasn't all 4x4, but you can look through they have the usual burnout contest and stuff, then rock pile, truck show, and mud pit I believe. Maybe something to look at to tweak some ideas from.

I've personally never been to the Carlisle All-Truck Nationals in PA but some friends of mine went last year and loved it so much they have already planed to go this year, and I'm planing to go as well. If something like this came to Charlotte I'd defiantly be there

I saw where StretchASU posted something about traxxas torc coming to charlotte and I dont think anyone saw the significance of his post. He said they were coming to the metrolina speed and sports complex. Either I missed something or its been kept under the radar cause I've never heard of the place. I think with the whole "build it they will come" thing we were talking about IT looks like its already been done!

This place looks like it could be great. It caters to "ameture sports".
