is it easier and/or cheaper to convert a dana 60 rear to 5 lug, or a dana 44 front to eight lug?

I have never tried 8-5 so I can't say for sure, but I'm guessing 5-8 will be cheaper/easier,unless you use some kind of 5 lug to 8 lug spacer/adapter type thingy.

I have no personal experience, but I'd have to guess the 44 if you're trying to swap parts.

Course you could always send the 60 shafts to moser, I've got to send a set from an isuzu 44 in to get them welded and drilled to 5 lug. I think the cost on the website is listed at $80/pair plus shipping.

this will only work if your 60 is semifloat... you would have to get the hubs turned down & redrilled to get 5 lug

It would probably be easier to swap the front to 8 lug... and cheaper too unless you have machine shop connections...

one of the lugs interfere with each other, so the only 5 to 8lug adapter is 2 piece...

Good point, forgot about the full float.

Why not just use a ford 9"?

thanks for the input guys. very helpful stuff. Does anyone know if the knuckles from an f250 TTB are the same as a solid axle?

They won't fit

man...you guys are full of bad news for me. im gonna stop asking questions!

The dana 60 on rear of my mudtruck is a 5 lug axle from strange. axle is threaded for wheels.i run wide 5 wheels so i dont change but at the adaptor.i run the wilwood calipers and one piece rotors..if you are running 8 lug rear why not go to 8 lug 3/4 ton chevy front?

thanks lacking, i think going 3/4 ton chevy front like you said, is the best way to go.

from what i read, ford had a lug pattern change on its eight lug series in the '90s. Just to verify does the lug pattern from a 95 ford match the pattern on a 3/4 ton chevy?

idk.. i cant remember what year ford started the metric lug patterns..im a chevy man. what are you looking to build? chevy or ford?

I guess ive got to build the '78 HPdana 44 (ford front) to match the dana '95 dana 60 (ford rear)

you could run the chevy dana 44 and run a ford 205 transfer case and run it upside down...i know but there are lots of people running them like that. thought about a 14 bolt rear?

I think he's already got the axles he listed. Trying to find the path of least resistance to make them match lug patterns.

is it street driven?trails or both? what inch diameter tires doe he run?

Id check around for a dana 70 rear and run your front end..

mostly trails. drive it too and from though. it wont see much street except to get to URE

is the front that you have 8 lug? another thing you hace to consider changing to a 5 lug from 8 is the braking set up. the 5 lug hubs are kinda expensive then you have to get caliper bracket and calipers. i ran into that problem with my dana 60 front using my 15" wide 5 wheels because i race 3 classes and all my wheels are 15"
