Thought I would post my low buck junk up here along with all the nice stuff you guys build. I am slowly building a 66 Scout into my idea of an all arround driver. All the suspension is just temporarily pinned in place right now while I finish the cage and interior sheetmetal. Being a big fan of acceleration and parts availability, I ditched the IH boat anchor and built a nice little flat top, roller 350 for it. D44's will have to stay with it for a while. Got a well built 700R4 and 231 Tcase will go under it. I just want this one to be a nice driver that I can hammer on a little when I feel like it. Maybe hit some trails at URE but, still be able to wash it up, turn the A/C on and drive it to church on Sunday. I am hoping at age of 45 I can show my new found maturity and not start building it into a beast like I usually do.:shaking:
All the bare metal got a coating of rust on it while I was on vacation and the tarp blew off. Gotta' love it! Now I have to break out the scotchbrite pad and the WD-40 and go to scubbing. NOTE: I lost my new found maturity... Its going racing!

Short block was a GMPP crate engine called a Ram Jet. Has a nice crank, powdered rods, ARP rod bolts, factory windage tray, 4 bolt mains, roller cam provisions, high volume oil pump. I installed a LT1 Hot Cam (Roller) and double roller chain. Heads are AFE 190 intake runners. Beehive springs, titanium retainers, Manley under cut stainless severe duty valves, 5 angle valve job, ported and cleaned up for tourqe. Intake is a GMPP mid rise dual plane that has the quadrajet pattern. Had my buddy Scott build the Quad. He has 13 NHRA Wallys in Super Stock. He knows what to do to a QJet! Headers are left overs off a drag car thats sitting in the shop. HEI and a MSD box to light it off.

Scout progress.

Built the crossmember for the Trans/T Case. Started cutting the floor and firewall out and remaking it for the most foot room around the pedals. With the engine set back this much, it is a real challenge. Got the tcase up as high as I can. Built the steering column and hung the firewall mount and rod ends on it. Steering wheel is removable with a quick release.
Grill emblem showed up on a EBAY seach for "International Emblems"! :massey: LMAO! I was looking more for one that said "INTERNATIONAL"! Needless to say, I bought it!

How do YOU weld sheetmetal?

Bought a little 110 Lincoln mig welder today to stitch the sheetmetal interior together. Before I started, I thought I would pick the brains of those who do it. My standby method is to drill holes in the top sheet and "Spot Weld" into the bottom while filling the top hole. Seems to work, but maybe there is a better way???

stitch it up

NCtom - I use both methods, just depends on what and where I'm welding. I am currently building a 66' as well, over in Huntersville. I am debating b/t a th400 that I have vs going 700r4. I would prefer the 700r4 to get OD. I have a few questions about the 700r4/350 setup, motor mounts, positioning etc. If its cool, I can pm with questions.

Seats and a shifter

Been too broke to pay attention lately! Much less buy shiny parts for the Scout. I did get a B&M Pro Stick for the Scout. I like the fact the stick stays in the center location when you bang it up or down. I had a Quarter Stick in my drag car and I didnt like the fact you had to pull the second lever for upshifts.
Seats are leather mid row and rear units out of a new Chrysler Mini Van. The fronts have built in heat, arm rest, tilt with collapsable head rest and seatbelts. Best part is they they fit perfectly in the narrow confines of the Scout. I am going to cut down the 60/40 back seat to fit a removable cradle for the rear. I plan to mount it like the factory did it back in the day.

Man, I paid it foward and gave it to a deserving guy that is building another sbc powered scout. Jason is on here too, good guy.

Just thought I'd knock the dust off this old thread and get it used to some activity.
Yep. Looking forward to it!

Is this the next Marsfab dope fab project? I sure hope so! I want to see a Marsfab built scout!

What is the game plan? Is it top secret?

Heck, If We had a plan, I dunno' know about it.
As it is now, If I have any money, I just take it to Chris and watch the parts pile grow. Hopefully it will be a competitive Class B racer for ECORS. Obviously Chris will be showing off on it, he wants to earn the business of the Scout community... All 6 of us.

GM Performance crate engine. I changed out the roller cam and did a few little things to it, mainly for longevity. It's a pump gas engine, nothing radical. Well built 700R4 and 241 t-case.
