Jake is employed by Greeneville Radio group as a dejay and one of the stations he is on plays alot of 80's music. He is on air Mon and Tues nights on that station. He is very knowledgeable about (old) music and pop culture in general.I usually listen to his show and tonight's pop culture teaching moment was Frankie goes to Hollywood's "relax dont do it".As a child of the 80's I remember the song well and the T'shirts that I only saw for sale at the beach.I know for most of you carolina guys a trip to Myrtle beach wasnt that big of a deal but for me it was something notable. From where I grew up it was about a 9 hour trip and you didnt think you would ever get there. If you showed up at school w a Panama Jack or Mother Fletchers t shirt everybody knew you had been to the beach.

Very true, but that is with any decade.
You ain't lyin.... Turned 16 in 84 so I was right in the thick of it. Hated a lot in the early 80's back then but then but as I got in HS and now I started to really love a lot of it.

80’s and 90’s Myrtle Beach was awesome. My dad used to tell me his stories from the 60’s and 70’s with all of the hot rods cruising ocean blvd. bet that was a cool to see. Sucks that Burrows and Chapin changed it so much.

My BIl talks about seeing Alabama at the Bowery there in the late 70's when he was in HS. We use to spend time with an Aunt and uncle every summer there in the early 80's. Our two families would vacation together down there.

I grew up vacationing there as well. I lived there for about two years as a young single dude. That was enough time to know that I needed to get out of there and do something with my life. Sadly, I’d never vacation there now. It’s crime ridden and one of the worst sex trafficking locations on the east coast.

I saw pink elephants there a few times

I don't remember the Frankie Says Relax shirts being any other color than white with black text. Perhaps that was a Michigan thing. The 80's for me was age 8 to 18, so some very formative years. I was more of a hard rock guy, but would tolerate Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Depeche Mode, The Smiths and Misfits just to impress my girlfriend (what was I thinking?)

My first concert was Rush Grace Under Pressure tour and then saw Vah Halen and Monsters of Rock. That was when you could actually afford concert tickets and occasionally get a shirt.
