86 F-350 SRW 4x4 300-6 on 38's

Cool that you are keeping the six. They are good engines, just not well loved anymore.
I've always loved a 300. The first truck I ever drove on the road was an 80 F-150 300 4 spd. I've always wanted to turbo one but haven't ever made it a priority.
if your gonna crawl it def recommend going propane. had a weber on my yota it was just as crappy as the stock yota carb. propane runs no matter what.
Thanks for the info but I'm not looking to crawl it. I wouldn't mind taking it on a trail ride but I'm just going to use it when I need a truck but don't want to beat up my powerstroke.

300 is a great motor....pull anything, just do not get in a hurry. I have had 3 & never regretted it!!

They can't be beat. I remember as a kid growing up my dad used one to pull gooseneck trailers when it was too muddy for the big block one ton to go. I've seen 7 or 8 full grown cows in a trailer behind it and never had an issue....except stopping haha. My neighbor worked for the power company when they had 300's and he said for maintenance they would change the oil filter and add a quarter of oil. Never pulled the drain plug.

Got the bed back on and front brakes done. Going to have to put a new proportioning valve on the rear. Got in a hurry and welded the bracket with it mounted to it and pretty sure I melted it. Just need a track bar drop and shocks and it'll be ready to go. The rear ended up being a little high. Going to take the 350 blocks out and put the 250 blocks back in.

Finally made some good progress. Lowered the back two inches, dug through my shock pile and found a brand new set of Ranchos from a 2012 F-350 and they were the perfect length, new brake prop valve is on for the rear discs, back glass is in, 96 bench seat is in. All that is left is a track bar drop bracket and windshield after the whole thing is clear coated.
