87 runner build

cut up the rear floor even more for the final mount of my fuel cell. I have about 8" section cut out of the floor for the sump of the cell between my shock mounts. I had issues on my first wheelin trip since the buildup with my 63" chevies. They were worn out and couldn't carry any load. Trucked out to uwharrie with about 300lbs of gear and i was scrubbing my fenders in the double parking lot if hit bumps. Unloaded everything i could and wheeled all day and limped her home. Did some leaf spring work to the front and rear last night.

That thing seemed to do really good at URE man. I'd like to find a runner to build one of these days. It was nice meeting you guys and getting to ride with you all day. Maybe we'll ride again soon.
 
Pieced together a hydro assist setup from surplus center. Hopefully it gets here mid week and i can wheel it this weekend. I can only hope.

Chances are its the combo of your shackle length and it's mount location on the frame relative to the full spring width.
To get the most droop, you have to be able to let the spring completely "draw" up as much as it can into full arch... if the shackle is too short or mounted to far out it will still be drawn outward and can't fully droop.
 
i did nothing to the rear initially. Previous owner moved the hangers forward and added new rear hangers for the chevy 63's. I had an issue with wornout springs so i bought another pack and added a spring to it. I haven't flexed out the new pack yet. I know its not going to perform like i want but its got me more towards level and drives better everyday.
 
Hopefully my hydro assist parts come in the mail today so i can get to work drilling and tapping my steering box and then i can install my ram.
Also, i called safelite and hoping i can swing the guy into installing a new windshield in the AM. Guess the worst he can say is no and i'll just have him leave the windshield with me.
 
HOLY CRAP!!!! i have a windshield. Its the greatest thing ever. Its like driving a new vehicle after driving with scratched up lexan. Driving into the sun is the best. I can see the road now!

Also got my hydro assist up and running. It seems very "nervous" is the best work i can put for it. On the street the slightest movement in the wheel and the truck seems to wander. Higher speed turns where the truck wanted to push before the truck goes around them with ease now. I thought that was weird. I also notice that if i'm barely moving and i turn the wheel the suspension loads up to one side. Ram is really pushing. If all goes well i'll report back with how it works as i'm headed back to Uwharrie in the AM.
 
small update but haven't really done much other than blow a head gasket and build a long travel front shaft. Did some wheel and tire flips.
