92 F-250 ZF 5 speed transmission question

Do you want the clutch to operate and the starter to properly engage?

They are out there and easy to locate.
i know it's just i'm so behind already and it's been really hard on me hunting down little pieces here and there...let me know if you know anyone in your area that might have one.

sorry jody, didn't see your post
do you happen to have one...i called every junkyard within a 100miles and nothing....would it be ok to just use washers on the bellhousing bolts same thickness for now to just put it together, test everything and get it out of my way lol while looking for that spacer??

I am sure you would not do that to a customer's vehicle so why would you do that to your own?
Why don't you just call the dealership and order a new one?

new are over 100 and that's just way to high for some stupid plate lol...now summit sells these plates that are 3/8" thick for clutch performance or something...what's that all about? thoughts on this??

Well then use washers.
I'd you can't afford to do it correctly now, wait until you can.
lol..i have the money for a new one but i'm really wanting to put it together and see what other more important things it might need to be reliable Tow Rig...brake work, differential seals/bearings and such so i guess i might use washers just to move around the yard and do few small test drives around the house while looking for one in the meantime but at least would allow me to put it together and see what else it's gonna need.
is there any reason i can't take one from say a dodge/jeep 360 and drill new holes to make it work??i know this would be tedious making it but still would rather spend some hours labor making one than nothing...thoughts on this idea cause i have one available for the dodge/jeep v8 so was thinking to modify it to work.

You will spend more than $100 on a new starter, clutch, etc when they let go because it wasnt installed properly
i thought about this since i have new clutch, starter, flywheel and such but for temporary use while searching for one so i can test drive it for other issues would that still be a no no...sorry not trying to be difficult but i'm not talking bout putting it on the road yet just enough to drive around few miles and see how diffs and brakes and motor does,..then i can park it while hunting a proper plate and it won't be in my way taking up all the shop space

ok so from my search just now...the 4.9, 5.0 and 5.8 use the same spacer plate???WTF why does junkyards tell me the 5.0 is different.....SOOOO anyone know of anyone with one of these motors around please send some info, thank you very much. (dang it, and i was at 2 bone yards today and they had 5.0s but guy said wouldn't work)

There is no way I would pull the tranny and t case back out because I was too cheap and in too big of a hurry to install the spacer.
true...hey jody, i'm on ebay and i have found several for the 5.8L Auto...wouldn't that be the same since the block is still the same for auto or manual or am i missing something that would make it not work...cause they are only 36 and i'm gonna order one right now if it will work. thank you and forgive me if that's a dumb question

Auto and manual *should* be different. The block is obviously the same, but the dimensions between the auto and manual transmissions are different, Also, the auto will have a removable lower section to access the torque converter bolts which the manual doesn't have IIRC.

yeah i'm noticing now that one is thicker than the other...oh boy this is quite some hunting around and getting complicated...i think i'm gonna be better off just making one lol

@Jody Treadway , hey one more question and i'll stop bugging you...i notice Summit racing sells several that are considered "performance" spacer plates to space the clutch further away???? they come from 1/4" to 3/8" so how does that work and am i just going too far off the path now lol. i'm so lost now i don't even know what the factory size would be..usually on most cars they are 1/8" but now i'm second guessing..how can you space a bellhousing that far away and the shaft still ride on the pilot bearing and stuff...if it's too long to explain, no problem and don't bother...i guess simple wrong parts would work. thanks man. what a headache this project has been!whew

Don't church it up.
Get an OEM spacer plate and be done with it.
found this...seems to be the best of all worlds lol and fair price for what it is...
