Here's my truck, I'm sure some of you have seen it. It's a '96 Chevy K1500 with 350 vortec, 4l60e, and np241c transfer case. I have spent roughly the last year working on it on and off and it currently has:

Front:
ORU Solid Axle Swap brackets (adds 3" lift)
12" superlift front springs.
ORD Zero rates in front set 1.5" forward
Rebuilt HP Dana 60 w/5.38 gears and stock shafts
New front driveshaft with longer slip and 1310 cv on the transfer case end.

Rear:
6" Rear BDS Springs w/add-a-leaf
ORD Shackle Flip
ORD Zero Rates set in center.
3" block
rebuilt 14 bolt with 5.38 gears, detroit, disk brake conversion, 1350 yoke
1310 CV on driveshaft

3" body lift for 18-19" total lift.

I originally put 49" Iroks on it but found problems so I traded for 44" boggers. Despite the high arched springs they are not unflexable, in fact here's how bad the 49's fit on the trail.

Hacking wouldn't help that much because they also hit the outward bend in the frame right behind the front wheelwell.

So here's the dilema: I'm obcessed with getting bigger tires to work, and inspired by the toyota on 52's :driver: . I'd still like to be able to use the thing as more than a mud bogger, though. I'd like to put rockwells and the new 54" boggers on it. I would need to work on getting the front axle even farther forward and maybe need a little more lift. I know COG is a problem but hopefully rockies with the hubs out will help that alot. So I am asking for ya'll's input into this. I fully expect that I will get bashed as well. :fuck-you:

Ricky just jizzed all over his keyboard when he looked at those pics! Any way, if you want to fit 52s get a toyota! It seems to me that the width of the truck is a big problem. (Well that and it's a chevy.):flipoff2: Go with a bit narrower truck.

You're not biased towards a Toyota are you? :flipoff2:

I never really thought about the diff between a fullsize and a smaller truck? Is that more for COG or room for tires to turn?

Oh yeah, let me add, those are old pics obviously cause it has 44's now, over height with 44's is about 97" to the top of the cab, overall width is about 90". I know all those 1310's need upgraded but I have too much money in them to throw them away, rear axle wrap is not bad with the add-a-leaves, it needs hydro assist steering, frame flex is kinda bad, it has a front trac bar, stops very well with front dual-piston calipers and rear disks, and has rear 1.5" spacers to help make the rear wider.

It's a big ass truck. I had a 78 chevy on 44's. It went through several stages to get that far. I wheeled it a telico, mt eagle, windrock etc. I did all I could to get it lower and lighter. It had no undented sheetmetal, and could not dream of doing what my buggy will do.

Big trucks are about worthless on the trail, to much sheetmetal, to tippsy, can't see anything because they are so tall, and have a kitchen table sized hood to look over. IMO it's a waste of a good ford d60 that needs to be under something usefull.

If thats what you like, thats cool, but you asked for my opinion.

Well said, my only issue with trucks that large is the destruction they can cause to a trail... BUT, you're right about trail use, you don't see many vehicles at tellico that are that large... If you like it then that's cool, just please dont run over me on the road (just kidding).

In all seriousness the rockwells will give you extra width (my mistake on the hub part) and that'll add stability and room to turn the tires. Moving the front axle forward alot will help as well. You also aughta add some armour, seriously consider a rollcage, truck that big will get tipsy real easy if your not careful, If it were me I'd exo it.

I like it, but even with 44's I would consider some fender/bumper trimming. Nice rig though. I bet that thing is hell in the mud.

Yea, Yota's are the shiznit. Don't have to worry too much about frame flex since they box 'em, and the're reliable and durn near bulletproof.

looks like a great compilation of parts to build a sweet buggy!
