The fan will not kick on at high temps. It will come on, like it should when the ac is on. Please help.

There's a relay on the passenger side fender that's going bad. It's labeled in the fuse box under the hood. Replace it and see if your problems go away.

If your talking about the fan control relay it's also used to control the fan when the A/C kicks on. I think if it were bad it would not work when the A/C was turned on either.

PCM = powertrain control module......computer.

Any idea where the cooling temp sensor is located. The first thing I did was change the relay, before my first post. I'll try the sensor next.

I'll ask the question I should have asked 1st. Are you sure it's overheating? The aux fan is not supposed to come on until the coolant gets to 217 degrees.

I use the jeep for off roading only, I have a mud pit out back. When I go play in it, the fan does not come on after the temp gets pretty high. I remember last year it coming on a quite abit.

If that's all you use it for, you could just make a wire jumper in place of the fan relay. That way the fan will run anytime the key is on. We did that on my son's XJ for the summer. Kept the temps in check when going slow on the trail.

That sounds great, now how do I do that. Is that something I just plug in, in place of the relay?

Just get a 3" piece of #10 wire and crimp a flat blade on each end. Pull the relay out and plug one end of the jumper into the power in terminal and the other end to the power out to the fan terminal of the relay socket.
Fan will run anytime the key is on.

Which temp sender did you replace? That year has two. One for the guage on the dash and one for the pcm. :D

Option #3 is go to auto zone and buy a fan controller with a temp probe ($20?). The probe mounts to the face of your radiator (using supplied pieces) and it is adjustable. You can make the fan come on at whatever temp you want.

wire it to a switch, thats how i do all mine. turn it on when you get in, turn it off when you get out, or wire in a relay to a wire that has power when the key is on, or just jump the relay. they all work
