I'm starting this over half way through the build, but oh well.

I started off with a stock 99 Silverado. 4.8, 5 speed, 4x4. Reg cab, long bed. Pretty sweet setup, really.

I added some aluminum rims from an 04 Silverado, intake, exhaust, dual e-fans from an 05+ truck, and a few other odds and ends. That got me to this.

I rocked that until this past January when I decided it needed a solid axle. Since I'm always up for over building stuff, I decided 1-tons were in order. I scrounged up a '79 Ford 60 to rebuild, gear, and lock. I got WFO to send me some crossover stuff, brake lines, and u-bolts. Out back, I sourced an AAM 11.5 from an 8.1 powered 2500HD, so it had 4.10s. I turned the rotors and bolted it to a set of 2500 springs that I got from the same truck. Then I slapped on some H2s I had with a set of Craigs Listed BFG ATs in the 315/70-17 flavor. Eventually I found some 2500HD aluminum rim center caps, but I still need to drill/cut the front ones to fit over the hubs and screw on the conversion lug nuts I bought.

Here's my rigs. Loaded up the Silverado to go get some pipes run under it :D

Here's how it sat shortly after I finished it up:

That's all the pictures I've uploaded to date, unfortunately. However, I'm smack dab in the middle of building a rather healthy LQ4 6.0.

Here's the specs:
2002 6.0 LQ4, stock bottom end
243 heads with PAC 1519 springs
Custom cut Comp cam 214/218 duration @.050, .601/.591, 108 LSA (think torque :D)
10.4:1 compression, roughly. I haven't done the exact math, but that's close.
1 & 5/8 JBA stainless shorties

Luckily enough, the 4.8 is destined to live out the rest of its days under the hood of my 85 S10, long bed. It'll get an Edelbrock carb intake, Holley 600/650, MSD 6 LS controller, a healthy cam, and a 5/6 speed setup. Should be a sweet little street terrorizer to pick up parts in!

Got the 243 heads bolted down and just about ready to put the balancer on, torque down the timing cover, and loosely install the pan. Then I might can get it dropped in the truck this weekend!

Did some more work on the motor when I got home from work this morning. There's a good posibility I'll start pulling the 4.8 out today.

Ill be in the market for a 6.0 myself some time for my 70s Chevy PU. Love to hear more about the 6.0.

What do you want to know?

Where did you get your 6.0? Im in no rush, but would like to buy a complete one thats ready to bolt in other than the mods to the ECU etc.

Picked it up off Craigs List from a guy in Mocksville. It was complete.

Wellll...long story short....the 6.0 is in and running :D It sounds wicked, but it needs a tune some kinda bad! Can't wait to strap it to the rollers and see some numbers. What little bit I drove it tonight/this morning, it was leaps and bounds above the 4.8 (of course), but I do love the 4.8s!

I'll try to get some pics up that I took during the process and I'll post a dyno sheet once I get it.

Put it on the rollers yesterday.

316hp @ 5000 rpm, 350tq @ 3800. If you look at the graph, you'll see it's up to 300 lb/ft by 2200 rpm. :D

We pulled the first go round with the stock 21# injectors. It made 302/346. Swapped in the 42# from an 8.1 Marine engine, got the wideband on it, dialed it in, and then made 3 more runs. The one I attached was the best one. I'd figure it to be around 375/425 at the motor, give or take a few. I didn't post the one that shows MPH, but it ran up to 140 and by that point the rear tires were getting a small ripple in the sidewalls :driver:

Awesome, those are good numbers. Got a video of it?

Yep, I've got one from the drive's side looking at the tire...you can't quite see the sidewalls rippling though. I also look one from the rear on the 2nd or 3rd run when it was still a running a little fat up top and it pulled a few degrees of timing out of it.

I'll see what I can do about getting them up here. I CAN tell you that it's hell on rear tires for some reason

Snagged the video off my phone. Couldn't find a way to upload it, so I just put it on PhotoBucket.

There ya go! 138 mph! It'll NEVER see that with my behind the wheel, I can assure you.

Man it does sounds good! All that power and speed, you should throw some really good rooster tails, lol :)

Congrats on the build man. I like it a lot.

Thanks! It's nice not to have to really get on it at all to get up to speed. Plenty of power on demand, I couldn't imagine a forced induction setup on this rig. I have enough traction problems as it is.

I'm running a tank through it after the final tune to see what kind of mileage it'll get. Still looking like 14-15, not terrible, but not amazing either. Then again, it IS a 6.0. Now we just have to tweak the startup parameters to get it to catch and actually run on it's own just from hitting the key and it seems as though the cold idle circuit isn't operational, so once I get that straightened out, I'll be golden. I'm sure I could go in and lean out the fuel maps for cruising and get another MPG, but it runs soooo damn good.

I bought HP Tuners, so I'll be tweaking it this weekend :D

Since I've bought HP Tuners, I also just picked up an NGK AFX wideband for tuning purposes. I also just ordered a Nick Williams 92mm throttle body to go on the Trailblazer SS intake manifold I picked up VERY cheap. I'm actually going to pick up another one that's been heavily ported inside. I've been working on some tunes here lately and I'm finally getting it dialed in only to have to do it all again when I swap manifolds and throttle bodies :D

It'll also be recieving a new Stage 2 Spec clutch, new PS pump and steering box, Alcan springs up front (if they ever ship out), and a I got a Hurst short throw shifter for it about 2 weeks ago. It's coming along nicely!

They're not so bad. Seen several 6.0s with way more power than I'll ever have push an NV3500 pretty hard. They all make noise, but they keep on workin. If it ever does give up, I'll look for an NV4500 (shouldn't have sold the extra one I had), or a ZF-6 from a Duramax :D

Ever seen the dude that swapped from a 4.3/NV3500 to a build 6.0/NV3500 and is now running a cammed 8.1/NV3500?! That's what makes me not really worry too much. Plus, I have the Hurst shifter with the shift stops to keep from tearing up the shift forks. That really helps.

So...I realize I suck at posting pictures  That aside, I'm trying to get the front leaf springs taken care of, that's another thread entirely.

Going to order the clutch tomorrow, I hope. I have a heavily ported TBSS intake on the way and a 92mm Nick Williams throttle body sitting here waiting for it. Now I just need to replace the rear main when I do the clutch and figure out where my valve train noise is coming from.

I narrowed it down, either I have too much/not enough preload (my guess is not enough, I have .040 on them now) on the lifters or the lifters have crapped out. If so, the motor comes back out and I pull the heads. What do yall think? Honestly, it may be as simple as the wrong length pushrods. I could have mis-measured or forgot the correct number.

If I have to pull the heads, so be it. It'll be a quick in and out thing (haha!) and I'll pull it out, do the rear main, pull the heads, drop in the lifters, slap the heads back on, measure for pushrods, and then get the proper ones if needed. It will receive the newer style GM replacements, more commonly refered to as LS7 lifters, but they're all the same now.

I hate to harass, but my knowledge is limited on this subject- how much does that 92mm TB benefit on a 3xxwhp engine?

Well, it's overkill, but really it's about my best option. The stock truck intakes are 3 bolt and a TBSS is 4 bolt. Plus, with all the porting the intake has had, it should help more so than it would on a stock one at least. I'll be dynoing again once I get the tune dialed back in after the swap to see what difference it made. It'll be noticeable, no doubt. The extra available airflow should really improve the tq numbers. I'll be sure to post some pics of the setup when I get it next week. It's a night and day difference from a stock TBSS intake to the ported one.

Finally got my ported intake in today. I had also ordered the Comp Cams trunion upgrade kit for the rocker arms and I picked up a new o ring for the oil pickup tube, hopefully that will solve my lifter issues.

Pictures won't do it justice, but this intake is night and day difference from the stock one I have sitting next to it. I'm very anxious to see what kind of a change it makes.

Here we go. Finally, some pics! Took one of that sweet throttle body, two of the inside of a stock intake manifold, and then two of the inside of the ported one. Should move plenty of air Jack! :driver:
