99 Siverado SAS

Been messing around with getting the tune just right. Almost there.

Recently swapped in a Spec Stage 2 clutch, changed the rear main seal, and did the rear cover gasket. No more oil leaks!

Dyno'd again last Friday for a good base number. 311/347. Just about the same, but needs a little more timing and a hair less fuel up top. Working on getting my wideband set up with HP Tuners so I can get that right.

I'm also just about ready to do my intake manifold and throttle body swap. I'll take some pics of that and maybe another dyno video. I want to know what I gain from only a manifold/throttle body swap and the proper tuning. Everywhere else online I've looked I always see where guys say I gained XXX hp and torque, but I also did heads, cam, headers, etc.

Anyway, that's all for now!

Haven't done much to this thing lately. Mostly just collecting parts it seems.

So far I've rounded up:

A Yukon Grizzly Locker for the rear AAM 11.5 thanks to ECGS, got a good deal on a lightly used unit
4" ORD shackle flip
5" USDR shackles from DIY4x
Spring plates, u bolts, and shock tabs from Ruff Stuff Specialties
Custom tailored Alcan front springs
Stock TBSS intake manifold
92mm Nick Williams cable pull throttle body

I'm kind of in the middle of building a house, so I probably won't get much work done on this until after it gets done and I'm broke and can't afford to go out and do anything :D Then I can stay at home every weekend and knock out some work on this rig! Truth be told...I'd really like to put a 4 link setup under the front. Not sure if I'd rather do coil springs or coilovers, but either way the link setup would get the rear spring mount out of my way and I could fit long tube headers and let that 6.0 breath. Eventually, I'd like to build a torque monster 408 stroker and swap in an NV4500. I can dream right?!

Here's some recent pics of it all cleaned up with the new to me Goodmark steel cowl hood!

Looks good man! You should mail your old hood to user "blaze" since his is the same color but has two fist sized dents in the front.

I've thought about selling it...but knowing my luck something would happen to this one. He's got your old truck, right?

I finally got around to putting in the rear locker. It's a Yukon Grizzly locker that I picked up a few months ago from the guys at ECGS. They said they had a customer come in a wanted one put in his Duramax dually that he towed with. About 3000 miles later they were taking it out and swapping in a factory Dodge limited slip  Guess he had never experienced a Grizzly/Detroit unlocking under a heavy load  His loss was my gain and I got it for a pretty damn good deal compared to buying a new one. It even has two brand new Timken carrier bearings pressed on it. When I removed the G80 carrier, it felt like the carrier bearings were toast and I think that was what was giving me the little bit of driveline vibrations I had. With some new bearings, a good cleaning, and a re-check of the gear pattern, I filled it up with some gear oil and crossed one more thing off my list of things to do!

From about 7:30 Friday night until somewhere around 5 on Saturday evening four of us pulled a trans out of a Silverado, I swapped in my locker, and we put a 6" ProComp lift on my cousin's 2005 F250. All nighters aren't so bad with some good company and entertainment.

I'm making progress, slowly but surely! Every other weekend or so I ride over to my buddy's house and we'll knock out something on my list of things to do.

This weekend's installment was swapping the front leaf springs for a set of custom made Alcans! It rides like a Christmas miracle now! I just can't decide if I need a panhard bar, a sway bar, or both. Maybe putting the other two shocks on the front will help.

Next on my list is to install the shackle flip and new rear shackles so I can get the rear up higher and level with the front. Here's a picture :D

After that, I'll finally get around to swapping the intake manifold and throttle body. I also picked up some 4.56s for the front and I'll probably be taking a little ride to get the rear geared by Jody.

Looks good, but please install the shackle flip. You don't wanna be one of those "carolina squat" guys :flipoff2:

No, no I don't! Once these springs settle a little bit, I'll get the shackle flip in there and decide how much I need to lift the rear. I just can't believe how great these new leaf springs are though. Makes me feel a lot better about dropping that much coin on them.

Been a while since I updated. I picked up some new tires; I went with 37x12.50-17 Cooper STTs and I love them so far. I also FINALLY got around to swapping the intake manifold and throttle body. I bought a stock TBSS manifold and a ported TBSS manifold. I went with the ported one on the 6.0 and a Nick Williams 92mm throttle body. Without any tuning so far, it's a completely different animal pulling through the lower RPMs. I'll try to get some pics of the modifications I had to do to the fuel rails, fuel supply lines, fuel rail crossover, and the intake piping. All in all, it turned out nice and looks fairly stock!

The next things on my list are a front driveshaft and long tube headers. I finally found some that will fit around the rear spring hangers and still clear the front driveshaft. After that I've got some 4.56 gears and I need to set up a panhard bar in the front.

I'll get some pictures soon!

I finally thought to get some pictures. Here's a few of what I did under the hood a few weekends ago, but oddly, I didn't take one of the finished setup with the 4" intake pipe I made. There's also some of how the truck sits now. Enjoy!

The intake and throttle body have made a huge difference. I'm anxious to see what the dyno says, but I'm going to wait to get long tubes on before I bug my buddy to use his dyno again :D It really makes a holler when you give it some skinny pedal and it takes much less pedal to get the RPMs I want. The tuning parameters changed quite a bit as well. It was very interesting to see how much more air is running through this motor with such a simple swap and it makes me realize how restrictive the stock truck manifold and throttle body can really be!

I also have a front driveshaft on order for this truck as well as my buddy's old Dodge. Both shafts are getting a 1350 CV, 4 bolt flange with a 1350 joint at the axle because both trucks have been kind of a pain in the ass to get the front driveline angles anywhere near what would be ideal. So, screw it, if I can get the operating angles I need...then all I need is money to make it happen

Please ignore the dragging ass of my truck....it's not on purpose! The shackle flip is next on my list. I'll be moving the front axle forward an inch as well as adding another inch of lift. The 37s are a little tight against the back of the front fenders and the side steps.

I realize that I've been slacking terribly on posting any pictures of this jewel. So...I'm going through my phone and posting a handful of pics from the last few years. I've done quite a bit of work to this rig and it's come a long way. It's still my DD and is doing well.

Since the last updates I've added:

Pacesetter 1.875" long tube headers, 3" exhaust, high flow cats, and a DynoMax Welded dual in/dual out with an internal X pipe
Moved the axle forward some more
Shackle flipped the rear with 6" USDR shackles
Added a Super Flex u joint at the front axle to keep the joint from binding
Picked up some fender flares on Craigslist
Front spindles, wheel bearings, Reid knuckles, WFO 2500HD brake swap (everything from the inner Cs out is brand new!)
LS Performance Wiring 05+ electric fan wiring harness

During the large amount of front end work done for the brake swap, I did a little machine work and finally swapped the front hubs over to 14mm x 1.5 studs to match the rear which was a pet peeve of mine and now all of the studs/lug nuts are the same. The ABS is fully functional as well and now all of the brake components are readily available at any parts house and I have a much better array of pads and rotors to pick from. It's also very nice having a slide off rotor now.

The stock 1/2 ton master cylinder works very well with the 2500HD calipers, surprisingly. A 1/2 ton uses a 34mm master cylinder bore, whereas a 2500HD uses a 37mm bore. It works so well right now that it's not a high priority, but eventually I'd like to swap to the larger, 37mm master cylinder to really match all the rest of the brake components.

Silverado's look RIGHT with H2 wheels!

Hahaha, very true! H2s are hideous. I need to cut holes in the center caps I have for the front, just haven't managed to get around to it in the years since I did the SAS. Luckily, I managed to come across 2 full sets for a Chevy, 2 random Chevy caps, and a mint set for a GMC. So I've been wanting to get H2s for my K30 again too with some 40x13.50-17 ProComp MT2s.

I wish I had done this brake swap months ago. The Ford dual piston calipers really sucked compared to this new setup. It'll actually (damn near) lock the brakes up now. As big as they are, you'd fully expect that from them.
