A co worker and friend of mine has a old 1991 fleetwood and is having trouble with it. He is wanting to rebuild it and fix it up but its running rough and he wants help. He says it backfires a lot and bogs down and wont go over 20mph. He has taken it in to a few different places but not a cady dealer yet. Anyone know of what might be the problem or what you would do to fix it? He is willing to swap in a newer cady motor and tranny if that helps. Thanks for any imput you can lend his way.

i think i know the problem

tell him he needs that to get with the guy that wants to put the atlas in a sand buggy bet those 2 could figure out anything

have you pulled any codes from it? i'm sure a 1991 Caddy has some type of self diagnostic computer system. But then I would go with fuel, spark, air. I would change all the fuilds, filters, plugs.

Personally I would just pull the engine and make a kickass RWD dude buggy out of it

have a mexican steal his cats, might solve teh problem

the muffler bearing is hung up on the kununtin valve! Better get the skyhook & left handed monkey wrench out.

Captin we have a problem!!!

Take it to Autozone and get them to check the codes, or buy a cheap scanner. If no codes are present, then do the usual full tune up stuff.

With all your post being about your friends I'm beginnng to wonder if you ever get outside of the Ronald McDonald playhouse

Can't take it to auto zone to read the codes, they can only read codes on '96 and newer OBDII vehicles. I'd say the guy with the '91 caddy's problem is that it's a '91caddy. (Read POS to the max) Doughboy, tell the guy that if he puts $100 into the car he'll double it's value. It's not worth fixing.

its a vehicle from 1991.

Im sure very very very complex for 91, is mentally retarded for 2007..

I was refering to swapping a new motor and transmission out of a new caddy into his 1991. SO that would equal very very complex electonics in the 1991

Also, the electronic systems in the 1991 would prolly still blow you away, caddy was doing some cool stuff back in the day

It might have been cool back in the day, but they still couldn't make it last worth crap.

And they still can't! They just do some cool electronic stuff that sounds great in theory but isn't very practical
Touche'

Couldn't agree with you more. I've made more aerodynamic stuff out of legos at 10 years old than a new caddy.

oh god yeah, that sounds like a bad idea!

Yea, so did the project i'm working on now. I'm putting a big block motor out of a 2005 caddy escalade into a 1968 Chevelle. Its fly-by-wire with the 4l80e trans. Very cool stuff.

I just like to see innovative stuff, there definatly won't be very many of these around. The customer said he wanted the baddest chevelle and town, and i think he will!
