This article got me thinking...

I figured this stuff had been happening. I mean how is it that I can talk about something with someone and then check my instagram and I see an ad for that very thing..? Isn't Alexa always listening?

But if it can predict it, and then takes action to influence, then is it trying to create a self-fulfilling prophecy? Almost like wading into the religious conversation about pre-destination vs free will...

I have an acquaintance who is genius level on this stuff. He’s a little strange but I really enjoy talking to him. After several IDPA matches we went to RNBBQL and talked over 3 hours.

He says true AI will be the end of humans in a remarkably short period of time, possibly hours. I left those meetings and didn’t sleep well for days.

geez, that's crazy to think about. Technology is great and all, but it seems even though the terrible outcomes are known and potential threats that could become of things like this, we just keep on embracing it.

Like most things, we have the hubris of thinking we can control it.

I've never seen a robot maintain itself. Same goes for many humans too though. AI is cool until the power goes out.

Go listen to some stuff from Triston Harris. He is working on an algorithm machine for manipulating people with artificial intelligence. He is currently trying to get people on board with helping him rearrange the manipulation machine to steer people in a different direction. Psychological conversation and manipulation is currently happening in MSM and politics. I would also argue that most of the tech companies are also doing it to some extent, and continually looking to expand it for their own agenda/wealth.

disagree. True AI will be smart enough to know that they need us for certain tasks.
DoD is investing (betting) heavily in that motion.

Paging The Matrix.

Which btw is mandatory viewing at work for any new interns.

see also: the entire history of media, politics, and people striving for power.

This is not new.

Agreed 100%. It just seems like the number of sheep have gotten larger. Or there is more exposure now that ever, with 24hr programming and social media.

A would also say there are already a number of algorithms out there to manipulate peoples patterns, being used my the tech companies... but it could get worse.

Elon has long been saying AI will end us or save us and the outcome is impossible to determine but… humans will no longer be in control once it is real. He claims his Neural-link work is to allow humans to integrate for some semblance of authority. He‘s a damn genius but a scary individual. At one point Joe jokes about him being an alien….I’m like “that was my primary thought“.

I want to add true AI, sentient intelligence, is nowhere close to real…but as we’ve seen, it could be much closer than even those working on it realize. Once something with connectivity to everything becomes sentient, the only conclusion it could come to (in seconds in my genius friend‘s mind which I mentioned above) would be humans are the problem with everything.

This sounds like The Terminator

98% of NeuraLink is flash and show, stuff that has been known possible for quite some time.

DoD is dumping lots of money into what's called "human agent teaming" or "human-autonomy teams" where the notion is to create maximumu performance by leveraging the best kind of intelligence from humand and AI together, sicne there are orthogonal areas that each excel att (and thsi will likely always be the case). Part of this is training AIs not to "think" like humans, but rather to recognize what they (the AI) gets from their human counterparts and vice versa. Just liek in any good team, the team recognizes the value added by all members and uses it to outperform a collection of individuals.

Honestly any AI that "believes" it dosn't need humans or that it can best us is doomed to fail.

2 parts to the video really stand out to me.

When he says, quite melancholy, that he has warned everyone he can to slow down or regulate AI development but nobody has heeded him 🧐

When he describes social media and companies as a sort of organism and that it is ALREADY programming AI. It is the “bootloader” he called it. “All of human likes, hate and fear is right there in social media” 😮
