I have never had much, if any, interest in Facebook and the likes. In a way, I still don't, but obviously that is the the way the world has gone and I can either jump on the train or sit alone at the station. During this short period since my heart attack it has become even more obvious. My wife relayed messages and well wishes to me, some from folks I had not heard from in years. That has raised an interest, but I just don't feel like Facebook is where I want to start out. I believe Facebook may have started out with well, but today my personal opinion is that our world would be a much better place without it. You can go ahead and say it... I'm just getting old!

Anyway, I do have some interest in conversing with others in a respectable social media setting. The question is: are there any worthwhile options or alternatives to Facebook, and what are your thoughts and opinions? Good or bad, please say what you think!

As for me... I'm doing OK so far!.

The difficulty won’t necessarily be finding other outlets as much as finding other people that will actually use those outlets. If you just want to see pictures and a short caption, there’s Instagram...if you just want communication there are apps like ‘lineapp’ that are basically like old AOL instant messenger. And there are options in between. But are the people you want to communicate with, using those outlets.

But I’ll say all social media is the same, it’s what you make of it, they all have the same idiots...whether it’s FB, a forum, IG, etc etc. But for the most part you can be in control of who/what you see, from how you have your settings on types and frequency of posts you want to see and from who...and selecting the people you choose to friend/follow/interact with.

That's pretty much the userbase now. or at least it's been MY experience.

Started for college kids.....parents joined to keep an eye on kids...."hey wait, we can look up old HS flames".....then grandparents joined to see pictures of the grandkids (who have no deleted FB entirely and moved to vine.....no wait thats no more....snachat....no wait....Oh well it changes weekly with kid) and now the parents are done with the politics and leaving FB, so your left with baby boomers posting meme's from 10 yrs ago.

Everytime I see my mother she says "I saw on facebook" at LEAST 10 times.

Honestly Don I think you'd enjoy it. Just DO NOT add any apps or games linked to FB. And be sure all of the pictures on your phone are backed up somewhere else (@XJsavage  )

Most of my facebook is people I am related to that I would talk to anyway, like siblings, parents, a few cousins and aunts and uncles. If I only see them at family reunions they dont get friended. Then theres some long time friends, and a very few from on this forum.

Im a member of a lot of facebook groups related to my hobbies (cars and 4 wheeling) most of my newsfeed is posts from these groups. Theres as much info on facebook as there is on forums anymore it seems. Facebook just seems harder to search.

Anyone who starts posting a bunch of crazy political stuff from either side, or the older relatives reposting 10 year old memes as mentioned above, gets blocked. I don't have time to scroll through all that crap.

Don, sorry to hear about your heart attack! Glad to here you are doing well and definitely keep us posted hear on your progress! I feel the internet as a whole has caused a lot of issues, not Facebook, but on the other hand where would be with out it. I grumble about it all the time, but use it every single day( NC4x4 o_O). I remember the days of no cell phones, color TV, microwaves, personal computers and internet. Seemed to be a lot simpler life and ...well enough of that soap box..lol I don't use Facebook much at all, but have an account. It is a good way to stay in touch will a lot of folks you would not otherwise as well as family and friends. Like others have said, there are many like sites, but who is using them. Come on Old Man, jump in the water with the rest of us, it is not that cold! :flipoff2:

I understand this completely......but you know whats changed. Time. Time to just go visit sit awhile and visit. Almost nobody does this anymore. Or just a dedicated road trip for a few hour much less days to catch up with folks. I thinks its just another sign of the deterioration of real close long committed relationships. Its very neat to catch up. To be honest though I'm no closer to them before Facebook.......hmmm I need to examine how I'm spending my free time.

Go to a 300 I6 page, post power curves showing the 300 actually produces less tq at the same rpm as V8’s or other I6’s...watch the world burn.

I'm not sure i can live without Facebook. Oh wait, breath in and out, hey that works! Screw Facebook, ditched it years ago and never looked back. Let it die:handed:

as others have stated,
there are other social media websites/apps but you arent likely to have people you know on your friends list.

Ello had the 2nd biggest chance to compete years ago but flopped. Google tried to compete by forcing all of its users to join Google+ but that flopped too.

you might try linkdIn if you are looking for something without all the drama

NO SHIT!!!!!
Those guys are heavy on the kool aid.The 300 guys in the OBS groups are the absolute worst. If a 300 is such a hot shit motor then why did Ford make any thing else.I've had a couple over the years and they last but that's about all they have goin for em.For those who are use to the civility of forums like this they would be amazed at the dip shits who make up some of the FB groups and are considered an authority by others on there.

Uhhhh you posted this on the only other social media site worth a damn... lmfao just sayin!

After you get use to looking over the bs on Facebook it's not that bad in all honesty I agree with you world would prolly be better off without it but at same time I wouldn't get to see pics and videos of family in Deep South or friends overseas in the sandbox... it has its ups and downs it took me forever to join fb and I'm only 33yrs old lol I hated the thought of everyone sharing what they doing every second of the day, but if it's people you give a crap about it makes it diff!! Glad to hear doing better!!!

My philosophy on social media sites, and in the exact words of my boss, "Keep doing what you do until someone tells you to stop; then go somewhere else and do it."

the thing with options.. they do no good if the people you want to contact or have contact are not on there as well...
