There is always a big debate about which is better, a real tree or a fake tree. So what is your opinion?

I prefer a fake tree. Saves money over the years easy to dispose of and no water for my dogs to drink. The best part no lights to put on it.

Honestly now that I have a baby we may start to buy real ones in hopes he'll enjoy it more.

I like the real tree...but wife has pushed for the fake one for years. A few years back, the real cut tree we brought inside must have had some bug-eggs in it. On Dec 26th when I went to take it down, I grabbed the trunk and it was all slimy. I looked and saw it was 100% covered with some bugs, and I had squished hundreds of 'em. That explained the little poopyseed looking things we had noticed on the presents. That sent her past the limit, and she proceeded directly to Target and got a fake one.
I kind of miss the smell of the real one, the process of picking it out. It is real nice though, grabbing the fake pre-lit tree, piecing it toghether and being done with it. I also forgot how much it sucks filling the cut tree with water.

I voted for a real tree primarily due to nostalgia and tradition. That said, I don't have any kids of my own, and I think a fake tree would be the way to go, mainly due to ease of use and minimal upkeep...and if I miss the smell, I'll go buy a candle and light it.

Real tree! Selling them in winston at the corner or peters creek and academy near the new ball field. I'm around the lot after 6 during the week and all day most weekends. If you see my green TJ with red wheels, I'm there, come in and I'll hook you up.

real tree
fraiser fir

b-i-l sells then every year and has some planted on his farm in Va. so it's kind of required (actually have 2 this year...4-5 on front porch, 7-8 inside)

so if anyone wants one....in hickory, just go to the Guthrie and Compay Lot beside the Tavern

Real tree for me and the wife. I grew up going in the woods with my dad cutting down our own tree. Most of the time we were financially not able to buy a tree so we went in the woods by our lake house and found something suitable. It sure brings back memories for me to go cut our own tree. The years where we just pick one of the pre-cut ones out it seems like I'm skimping out on the whole traditiion thing...

Putting lights on the tree is a burdeon, but its part of the tradition and what we enjoy doing. Fake tree with lights? Hell, might as well leave the ornaments on there too!

I have a real tree because i like the smell of fresh Fraser. :huggy:

x2

We always had a real tree growing up, but last year bugs hatched on our tree too. The wife flipped out over that. She wants to buy a fake one this year. I am kind of bummed, but didn't care for thousands of bugs in the house either.

My aunt and uncle had a praying mantis egg casing on their tree one year, ended up with little green babies all over the wall behind the tree! I'm pretty sure they switched to a fake tree after that, too.

I like a real tree, for the smell and even the feel of it when you're putting the lights and ornaments on. I use the trimmings off the bottom to make the wreath for the front door every year, too. I just check it over (as best I can) for anything odd!

I don't believe fake trees were around yet when I was little. That said, there is nothing quite like the sweet smell of a real Christmas tree in the house. However, my wife and I have used a fake one for years mainly because of the mess, and the fact already mentioned of the fire danger. Ironically, we just got home, within the hour, from Lowes after purchasing a new artificial (small Fraser Fir) tree and some new LED lights.

Grew up cutting our own real trees. I love the smell of a real one but hate the mess and cost. Went to a good fake a few years ago and have saved lots of money and mess. Fake came with lights on it. Pops up in a couple of minutes.

I would have thought you would have one of those ALUMINUM TREES with a colored light wheel on it! Oh never mind, they probably didn't electricity when you were a kid! My bad! I vote for the fire proof trees now.:flipoff2:

We are on a budget this year so I'm going to use the real one left over from last year that I didn't around to burning yet. Now I don't have to worry with filling the base with water! I figure a little green paint and it'll be good as new. Lights are a PITA, so we are going to use candles on the tree instead :D

I prefer to have a real tree for the same basic reasons everyone else has said. At the moment we are using a fake one because we cannot afford the real one. I think I'm gonna get a pine candle and burn while the tree is up because I miss the smell.

I like the smell of a real tree , but they're expensive, buggy, and shed needles all over the place.
Fake for me.

There is another thread under "General Chit Chat" looking for a "Dog Breeder". I can't explain why I immediately thought of you, but I'll be darned.... :flipoff2:

Well I prefer a real tree.

However my mother-in-law is allergic to them. So we have a fake. No mess and cleanup/setup is easy.

Real. A few needles falling off doesn't bother me. It's not like it takes more than a few minutes to run the vacuum. Get a fresh cut one from a farm, get it right into water and not that many fall off. As for the fire hazard issue, if it's fresh, it's much less of an issue. I don't usually burn my tree for around a month after Christmas and still need a fair amount of gasoline to get it really going.
