Another snake ID thread

We saw a northern water snake in PA that looked like a very dark copperhead at first glance.

Folks that say they saw a “4/5 foot mokasin” back around central NC were brown water snakes. I stopped and got out because I thought I had a rattle to save but it was indeed a copperhead. Still glinted in the sun but dark copper not the pretty usual bright color.
