Another welding thread

Lincoln 175T- Personal machine, like it. Loved it before main transformer replacement (under warranty). It gets by now but it simply isn't the same, doesn't generate the same heat as before. Now I want more machine. I have actually gotten decent results with the teflon aluminum feed kit for this unit using a bottle of straight argon. Welds on our golf carts with 3/16" and 1/4" aluminum have held up to heavy use over a year now.

Miller AEAD 200- Onan 2-cylinder stick welder. Great machine, never let me down as a generator or welder. Its from something like 1984 and still kickin ass, sweet to drive it out to whatever needs fixing and power the grinder, sawzall, etc off it then burn in whatever needs it. Have liked it for stainless work on snow guns in the field.

Lincoln 135T- Cool as a 110 mig, wouldn't use it for much anything structural. Prefer the 220 lincoln with .025 for sheetmetal honestly but the flexibility of just needing a 110 cord is awfully convenient.

Victor O/A torch setup- Most flexible welder I've got in the shop. I've got tons of respect for guys who can oxyfuel weld well, I just tack things here or there when I've already got the torch out.

Lincoln 135 w/ gas is a great LITTLE welder. But I'm ready for an up grade. I need more heat.

100 amp Weldernator made from a chevy two wire alternator by me. Welds 6011 1/8 th rod great.

miller 212
sycrowave 180
hypertherm 1000
did own a thermal arc predator portable 10K gen with 270 amp out put and 220/1 phase and a optional 3 phase output (it was a better generator than a welder)

at work: 2 miller 250 sycrowaves
2 miller 60 amp plasma
1 hypertherm plasma
1 Dynasty 200
1 Dynasty 300dlx
1 300 xmt with spool gun
2 pulse mig alum welders with push pull python guns (around 300 amps cant remember the series)
1 miller 200 mig
2 miller 250 with spool gun attachments and gun on demand

learned on miller units and went to school to really learn on all lincoln units, if they were more popular locally that is all I would own. In every aspect and weld process they were friendlier to work with and set up. The square wave form on tig was optimal for tweaking around, and mig seemed to have an incredible fat spot for tuning in at all heat settings and the stick units had the softest arc of any machines I've ever used. Locally though support was a little off and the price was always higher for purchase and consumables.

I'm on my way to TSC right now to get it.

I got it home now. It ending up costing my $890 with a tank and a new pair of gloves. I'm gonna get a roll of wire from National Welders cause it's way cheaper.

tank woulda been way cheaper from them too

I got it from them because I wanted to be able to exchange it on saturdays and sundays if I had to.

National in Hky quoted a 125cf tank to me for 220 filled. James O2 wanted like 350 to purchase a tank from them. I bought mine from an independent auto parts dealer for 190.

mine was around 230 filled

We use the Hobart 187, and for the $$ i think it is great. I have used better welders, but the only things i wish were different was slightly better adjustability on the amperage, and maybe a little more power. It has welded everything I have asked it to on my rig.

Jeff, that is what csudman and I use and I feel good about my welding and it can still weld better than I probly ever will...Good score. Now call me about some tropper springs bish

I set up the welder this afternoon and built a hood for my woodstove. It took me a while to get it dialed in but I have it going prety good now. I don't know if it's the wire or the gas but I'm gettin spatter like crazy.

Switch the ground and positive wires in the compartment. I've seen two of these welders people have bought with the polarity reversed to be used with flux core. I guess they come like that. They weld like crap and they hate them, then they figured out the polarity was reversed and they love them.

+10000000000000000000

I forgot to do that when I hooked the gas up to mine.

I will try that in the morning. I read the instructions and it said that polarity didn't matter when hooking up those two wires. I thought I was doing it right.

ohhh ok. I will try that in the morning.

I changed the wires and it welds awsome now. Thanks for the info man.
