A company has purchased more land within a half mile of my place, theyve logged all the good trees and left a bunch of free fire wood for the cuttin'. Alot of real old growth trees were simply knocked down..uprooted.
With permission from site superintendent, I went after work today and cut a lot of future fire wood. Found alot of broken glass around this one area of a really old uprooted oak. Looked like old glass.

I ended up finding these 3 intact. So I brought them home and cleaned them up.

One is an old green bottle with a glass marble in it. CN barringer, monmouth,
Powell bristol, pontmynwy, are some of the markings. It has a big letter B on bottom.
I havnt figured out its age or origin yet.

The clear one is marked..
Federal law forbids sale or reuse.
4/5 quart (I think this one might have ties to Prohibition era. )

Then there's a brown glass clorox bottle ( jug)
It is a half gallon, with solid raised letters, grained texture on shoulder and heel. (Stripes made of tiny bumps) and a 1 finger loop handle.
A Google search sent me to clorox bottle website. I learned that this bottle is 72 years old. A 1945 bottle with a threaded top.

Prolly not worth much, but still a pretty cool find. That, and about 150, 16 inch logs added to the wood pile. Wooooh!

man I woulda like to have walked through there before the clearing... I came across an old site one time and found a bunch of cool old tools and stuff. One of the things i found was a huge wrench. Its about 4 ft long and weighs 30-40 lbs.

Really cool finds! And good job on scoring some firewood!

If you find anything out about the value, let us know. I bought some land last year and found a pile of them. Going to wait till winter to dig thru them. I know some hold some value.

Id really like to have that clorox bottle....but I probably wouldnt pay what youd want for it

The "federal law forbids" bottle would be AFTER prohibition, sometime between '33 and ~63. Most likely just had some ordinary liquid in it - but you might as well make up whatever story you want to tell your kids.

Done....send the details to the HBIC

Just for the heck of it, I returned a burned out light bulb [energy eff!] to Slyvania, under warranty. They Mailed me back a new bulb, in the plastic container used in stores, & packed in bubble wrap. Cardboard box was Smashed & bulb broken! :shaking:
They couldn't mail me a Pre-paid Card? Box was $6 + postage.

on the one with the marble in it--the last one i bought cost me $10.
i would give that plus shipping for the one you got.

I found another bottle this afternoon. Right near the same area. There is so much broken glass in this area that I cannot believe these bottles are in such good condition after being in those woods for what I assume is a long time. I'm starting to think this was a buried trash pile, but there are no signs of anything other than glass.
I have seen bottles like this before and was really excited to find this one.

I have not washed this bottle, just rubbed and wiped away the dirt with my hand. Its in great shape. I'm going back to look for some more once this storm passes.

Just read up on the Dr. Pepper bottle.
Its a 1934 made in Winston salem.
The lettering is debossed. Which means indented, not raised lettering. Its most common, with the rarer bottles having raised letters. ( machinery and shipping had a way of chipping and wearing out the raised letters, so alot of bottle makers switched to indented lettering) but not all bottle makers could afford the tooling change.

This is turning into a mystery in my head.
How can a 1934 dr. Pepper bottle and a 1945 clorox bottle be found in the same assumed dump area.? No other trash? Idk..it's a mystery

It's likely that the glass mold and design is 1934 but in reality the bottle could have been made in 1950, for example. Same with the Clorox bottle. At least that's the theory I've been told about some of my old bottles

Check out the link in the above post. Your theory might be correct about some bottles, but maybe not the Clorox ones.
As for the Dr.pepper bottle, I Google the numbers on bottom and dr. Pepper and that's what come up with.

So..I told the wife I was gonna go look for more treasure and she said sounds like fun. So did my daughters..lol. So we all went searching. Here's a pic of our finds for this evening.

. And before it's mentioned, I am aware that the starbucks, budwieser, and miller highlife bottles are not worth a penny. With the kiddos helping in the search, it seems that any bottle was treasure worthy.

Here's an example of how we found alot of the older bottles. This turned out to be a coke bottle in great condition. Its hard to date these, but probably not super old. This was found probable 50 yards from the where I found the clorox, Dr pepper, and monmouth bottles.

I'd be interested
In any blue glass bottles you find. Over the years my mom has collected blue glass, having friends in the forest service they find trash piles like yours pretty often

The coolest thing though...
Brooke yelled "jackpot!"
She had found a few dark colored liquor bottles laying beside each other. When she picked one up, she found another directly under the first. All in all..there were 12 of these same bottles, all marked with federal law forbids sale or reuse, but get this.... They were all on top of each other in about a 1ft x 1ft square, going down into the ground.
Maybe someone had buried an entire cardboard box full of them at some time.? If so, the cardboard was long gone.
Maycee joked that it was an old bootleggers stash. And someone never collected their booze. Could she be right?
Here's how she found the first 3..the rest were directly under these, but in a much tighter formation.

I wish I had taken more pics of how they were stacked in the ground, but Maycee had walked off with my phone so we just plucked them out of their hole. It was almost dark when we got home and unloaded our treasure onto the trailer, but I managed to take a pic. You can see all of the brown bootleggers stash bottles waiting to be cleaned. I doubt they are super old, but who knows. It was a mega treasure!
