I have literally spent hours today on the bathroom sink faucet and all I have to show for it is a wet floor and how to carry my toothbrush to kitchen to brush my damn teeth.

Long story short, my old faucet was dripping, so I pulled the valves and went to store. I couldn’t find any replacements so I bought a $50 Peerless faucet. Installed it and it leaked in the center hole under the sink.WTF? Thinking it defective I went back to the store. They didn’t have any exchanges, so I bought a $60 peerless faucet. Installed it and the same damn thing. Leaked from the center.

This ain’t my first rodeo. I’ve installed several. I looked underneath and noticed both of the new model have the same construction. I tore the latest apart and it’s basically at the cold/hot mixer that they are leaking. Is this a manufacturer malfuction? Or am I doing something wrong? I shouldn’t have to open the faucet to seal something should I? I snorted to the instructions but nothing new to me there.

Typically its just a little ball valve in there. Is it just that the seal is leaking?
It sounds like shitty manufacturing to me.

I went through 3 faucets at my in laws place because of crap design and/or manufacturing. Everything they sell at LowesDepot under $200 is crap. Not sure about the more expensive stuff. It's probably all cheap chinese crap too. That's all we get in this country these days, cheap chinese crap! </rant>

Most 2 handle are compression or cartridge

Compression tend to start dripping after 5-7 years. And it's just a disk and o-ring

Cartridge types, it's a cartridge issue

Instead of taking everything apart, driving to lowes, not finding what you need, then waiting till the next day to go to an actual plumbing supply house just to find out you need to order it....it IS cheaper (sometimes) to just call a plumber. Most residential service plumbers have the o-rings, seats, and cartridges on their van to fix every faucet in your house that drips for a service call + time. Seriously....your'e looking at +/- $150 to have him fix all the leaky faucets in the house.

Also...do you have a PRV? And have you ever checked your pressure? Too much pressure can cause premature failing of these faucet components. (To ME) It'd be worth a service call to get your pressure checked, and fix all the little drips.

Seconded on Troy's comment, I know very little about plumbing and called a local guy in. He gave my house a once over, determined that my PRV was missing, that my main shut off was junk, and that the previous owner had DIY'd a few other things wrong. Now they are right, and I have peace of mind, as well as a little more knowledge and comfort to do this shit myself in the future. Also, the affirmation of his professional opinion that fixing my 50-60 year old hardware is better than fighting with cheap Chinese crap.

I called Peerless and their reply was straight out of a service manual. “Your seals that connect your spigot tube are worn out”.... ITS A BRAND NEW FAUCET!!! “Well, Lowe’s and other stores let them
Sit on the shelf and they they go bad”

WOW! That’s the response?

Seeing this makes me want to call that plumber friend back and have him check my wife's house now..... ugh....
