Any thoughts on removing a Quarter from an SD Card Slot

Somehow a Quarter found it's way into the SD Slot on our laptop. the slot is too thin to fit tweezers in and have them open enough to get around the quarter. I've tried tapping/slapping the lap top into my hand to knock it out but it's pinched in there pretty tight.

We rarely if ever use the SD, but now that there's wages stuck in there, you know I'm going to need to read an SD Card.

Short of replacing the reader, how the hell can i get this thing out?

No magnets lol @shawn

Could you use scribes and picks? If not youll prob need to do a partial tear down

I'd try to bend a pick out of thin stiff wire. Something with a gradual bend to snake around it and try to roll it out. Other than that, a toothpick with a drop of superglue might work. Maybe modify the end of your vacuum hose to go over the slot and see if you can suck it out.

I took out the blanking plate from my laptop SD slot, and measured it. It's 0.951 inches wide (rounded to 3 dec places), and a quarter is 0.955 inches (that's the listed diameter). The slot steps down to 0.92 inches about halfway down the cardslot depth, so that's probably where it's jammed.

So I can see that's a pretty fun thing to get out. The blanking plate is 0.085 inch thick, so you have a tiny bit of wiggle room with a 0.069 inch quarter.

I'm brainstorming solutions that haven't been suggested yet. I actually like the superglue idea, because I like adhesives a lot.
I think doing a partial disasembly is the way to go though. Most of the sheet metal cardslots have cutouts in them, so it should be really easy to get the quarter out if you have access from inside the laptop.

You need one of those plastic blanking plates BTW, for future use. Or an old SD card. Something to keep quarters from finding their perfect home.

This reminds me of when I was a kid and my brother put a ton of change into the VCR. My dad took it to be repaired and the guy told him it would be $50 or whatever to fix it. When he got it back the guy charged him like $46.37 because he took the change he found inside off the bill.

Fire. Pick up quarter from the ashes.

BTW a rare earth magnet would work fine. Make sure computer is powered off first.

(A) You sir choose to use your spare time alot differently than I.

(B) Now I kinda want to stick a quarter in one just to see the challenge

If it's that close curl a paper clip around it to where ya have both ends out the front and pull!? I've done this before... lol kids are great!

For the record, my money would have been on a dab of Krazy glue on the end of a scrap piece of metal.

Then, another dab on the face of the quarter, left out for the guilty party to come along and pick up.
