Any Toyota Mechanics on here/ Toyota gurus?

It's not the driveshaft I checked. I've been hearing it's synchros but why would they all go bad at once? Seems everyone on here is leaning towards the clutch how can a clutch make such a god-awful noise? If I could find a trans I'd install it with a new clutch but I can't find one out of a 1992-1995 4cyl 4x4 anywhere

Call the "yotayard"

shipping is guna kill you! But if you need it you need it!!!!

Personally I don't think it a clutch or synchro
I think one of the bearings that supports the out put shaft is bad, is there ANY play in the out put shaft? With the drive shaft out put in neutral, 4wd as well, turn the out put shaft, do you hear or feel anything?

W56 is a hard trans to find because, well they have various bearing issues. You're better off taking what you have and having someone knowledgable go thru it, and do it before it eats itself, once that happens, you're now looking for a trans and now have no CORE, which will almost double the cost.
The places that have a W56 know how hard they are to find and charge according.
Now you know why Marlins core return is so tough, he's been hosed a few times.

Bent or broken fingers on your pressure plate will make a constant grinding noise as well. You need to pull the tranny and tcase and see what the issue is before you go blow a ton of cash on something you may or may not need. (W56)

Especially since you previously stated that you drained the oil and did not find any excessive particles in it.

When doing so, did you also drain and check the t-case?

I would check that oil as well. When my T5 went out, I paid a mechanic to tear it down and diagnose it. To some, that may seem like money wasted (especially since it ended up being junk), but to me it was worth it so that I could make an informed decision. Sometimes it can be an easy fix, sometimes not.
