I'm thinking about entering NASCAR tech in a few months and wouldn't mind talking to someone that has actually done it. Has anyone here been to the school or know of anyone that has been? I know I can talk to their recruiters, but they like skipping over the negative and just doing the positive stuff. Any reviews or complaints?

I have a friend whos son is enrolled in Mooresville. He says that one out of a thousand actually get a Nascar related job, but other great jobs will result. You may not be a Hendrick engine builder, but you might land a job at a great company with lots of $.

I don't really want a NASCAR job. I'd actually prefer a dealership or the after market. I'd just be going there as the closest UTI campus aside from NTI is in Florida, and you get the same education at NTI as all the other UTI schools.

I was enrolled to start few years ago but backed out a month before I was supposed to start. I backed out because I decided that I didn't want to be a mechanic. i only talked to like 3 people that had actually went there they didn't like it but probably 12 people that new/related to people that went there that didn't like it. Everyone I met at the school was very nice though and they have a great facility. So i guess I am not any real help but I can tell you I never herd anything positive from someone that went to the school. But I am not those people so I don't know. They all may have not liked it because they are lazy morons and they had to work hard and act like they have some sense so I say if that is what you really want to do then go for it I mean there statistics showed great job placement after graduation and you cant argue with statistics. I say if your sure you wanna be a mechanic go for it. I went to my friends shop and worked for 4 weeks and decided i didn't wanna do that for a living. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I have a friend that went for the full ride and he was offered a few very good jobs when he graduated. Know what he does now? Works at a surf shop and goes to UNCW last I heard. He liked the school though and the job offers were legit.
I also have two friends that are instructors there and all in all they are pretty happy with it.

ANy reason your friend didn't take those jobs? Decide he didn't want to be a mechanic after spending nearly 50 grand?

I'd go to UTI or something better credited. I work in Mooresville and I can tell you that if you were to relocate there are very few places other than quick change oil shops that are willing to hire you even part time. Our machine shops been threw a few students from there. Most of the students get little respect in the area and are mostly considered a problem. The city likes the taxes, but the residents would rather do without the school. For the $$ that it cost, I'd look elsewhere.

x2....i work at honda of concord part time just making some money to help pay school expenses as i go to UNCC and i know a couple guys who have gone and who are currently going now to NTI. the ones that went said it was waste of money and i have heard that some employers in the area wont even talk to people if they have NTI on the resume. it seems to be because they have a bad reputation because some graduates come and act like they know it all when really they dont know anything and they become untrainable because they think they are Gods gift to the automotive industry because they went there. they spent 30-50grand for a non-existant degree when they could have gone to a 4 year college and got a bachelors degree for that kind of coin and could work smarter instead of harder the rest of their lives.
just my 2cents.
oh yea....guess what one NTI grad, as well as the two who are currently going are doing....changing oil with me in the quick lube for less than $10.00 an hour.

I've got two buds that went to UTI or whatever it is in Charlotte, one works at Wakefield Ford making enough money to own two cars (one of which is a modded M3) and live on his own. The other is changing tires at discount tire but he's also a pot head with no drivers license....

What is his position at Wakefield? And was he top of class or anything? I've heard some good, but mostly bad in this thread. Anyone got any real positive story?

NTI is a division of UTI. I've never heard any of my Mooresville friends complain about the school.

My brother-in-law & 3 friends all went to NTI. Like everything else, you get out of it what you put in. They all had positive experiences with the program & are doing well for themselves. All 4 currently work for dealerships & aren't just lube techs or tire changers. I'm sure my brother-in-law would be happy to talk to you about the school if you have any questions or want more feedback.

Is he a member? Would you happen to have his email? I wouldnt mind sending him a message. Either that or have him send me a message at bandysguy2008@bellsouth.net . I'm going for my interview Wednesday so I need to gether all the info I can by then.

i work at leith toyota and we have3 guys from uti and one from nti, most of the guys from uti are pretty good but thr guy from nti is great .in all fairness though the guy from nti is a gearhead and 2 of the guys from uti were just looking ofr something to do in life the 3rd guy from uti is good also.

Well I have to say I have mixed reviews on NTI. I have had a few guys come and work at my shop and out of the three one was really good and the other two really were not into it. If you are really looking for a career in the automotive world then I would go for it.

Also my sister owns the Salad Works in Mooresville and ironically she has had about 6 guys from NTI tossing salads (pun intended) and washing dishes so this kinda says a little also.

All in all I think the school is about the best training you are going to get in the automotive world locally. I have been there and toured the facility and it is pretty impressive.

I've heard nightmare stories about Nashville Auto Diesel College...
Promises of high paying jobs and all this crap...then you get there and it sucks royally...

Of course it is hearsay from a guy I know who was going to go there...and the more he researched, the worse it sounded.

Do you put a flag or anything on NTI guys as a business owner? Good or bad? I'm trying to figure out if it puts you at more of a disadvantage than an advantage to go there when you get out in the business world.

I graduated NTI last october and now I run a shop in statesville. Like some people said you get what you put into the school, I know some people that went there and just screwed around and were pissed that they didn't learn anything but then I know other people who learned a lot and are damn good techs. What causes a lot of problems is that kids graduate from NTI but have never spent a day in a shop, then they go out applying for a job with no job experience or ASE's and it makes the kids that worked hard look bad. When I graduated I had 5 years of experience, my ASE master certification, and my NC state inspectors license.

well im just saying...i went to nadc...and am now working at hendrick motors mercedes benz....

not saying that you would too..i worked real hard when i was in school...

and it payed off

i have no nightmare stories to tell..

Howd you get your certification before graduation? From what I was reading you have to have at least 1 year experience after the school to even qualify to take the ASE's. Would you mind sending me a PM or E-mail with a detailed account of your experience? I have a ton of questions for you.

We recently paid for a kid to go through NADC with a guaranteed job upon graduation and a reduced pay rate (only $1) for 1 year.

He is an odd character IMO, but appears to be a pretty good tech, especially for his age. And he is 20 and making 20+/hr REAL TIME not flat rate...YMMV
