I'm looking for a new daily driver. Jeep Wrangler is on the list right now. Looking 2007 or 2008. Would go with the 4 door 4 by 4. Don't really know too much about them other than they are Jeep. Is there anything that I should be on the lookout for? Or is it pretty much what you see is what you get.

Be on the look out for gas stations!!!

I dd a wrangler.Don't expect a good ride.Don't exect good gas mileadge.I've got 200,000 miles on mine driving up and down the east coast.I've had it since 2001 and plan on keeping it for a very long time.

I daily drive an 08 Rubicon on 35s soon to be 37s running the stock 4:10 gears and average 14-15 city and 17-18 on the highway but I only run about 70-75 not a speed demon or your mileage will suck.

If you are going Jk, they can make an excellent daily dirver, If fuel mileage and power mean anything to you go with a 2012 and up, The 3.8 is a dependable engine but it is a dog. With the 3.6 you will look to get from 17 to 22 mpg and have excellent power.

All these engine models got me in a whirlwind. We already have an 09 Grand Cherokee. We have been pretty happy with it so far. I wish she would have got a V8 but it is what it is. But it has the 3.7L V6. I thought for sure the Wrangler would have had that. But they have the 3.8L and then the 3.6L. Are these engines related at all?

I can accept 15 around town and 20 on the hwy if that is realistic. I'd rather not get down too much lower than that.

My wife DD's her 08 2-door Sahara. She is a lead foot and gets 16 in town/20 highway. With that said, the 3.8 is such a wimp that even a leadfoot like she is can't get a ticket in it haha!

The only issues we have had is the hard top leaked at first(we have dual tops) They eventually got it fixed. We had problems at first with it not cranking, they fixed that. We have the lifetime powertrain warranty and I do all of the services myself since I'm a technician.

Pro's= reliable, lots of lift/aftermarket support.

Con's= not much power on road(great off road), keep the automatic cool and it will last(get it hot one time and its dead), rough ride, mediocre gas mileage(a XJ gets the same mileage with lots more power)

I would get the 3.8 again based on reliability. I know that the first year of the 3.6(pentastar) has some issues, mostly around the block not having all of the cast sand knocked out of it after the pouring process. This sand gets into the oil and thats not a good thing! The 3.7 that your GC has is a completely different motor from the 3.8, the 3.6 is a completely different motor from the 3.8. This is all a result of Chrysler changing ownership so much. I hear the 5.7 Hemi and the CRD is going to be available in the JK in 2014, maybe someone can verify.

I have a 09 Hemi Commander and love it! I will never regret getting the V-8 over the V-6

We have an 07 jk it gets in the 12.5 range around town on 35's but really lacks power. But then again if we wanted speed we wouldn't have bought a jeep. Ours is just an X model with a small lift. Ride is not the worst I had but it ain't no Cadillac. It does do very well on the trails tho and it's nice to throw your buddys kids in the back so he can take them for rides in the race jeep...lol

I have an 08 and this best represents my experiences.

What do you plan to do with this thing?

If it's just for DDing and you don't plan to wheel it, I'd look elsewhere. I could not DD my 08. Mine is a 4 door. (JKUR).

I bought it so I could take my kids wheeling with me.

PS there is a lot of bad info in this thread.

I can barely tell the difference between the newer soft tops and the hard top.

Gas mileage will vary based on transmission, gear ratio, weight, tire size, etc. I jjst drove to Daytona and back. All interstate. Cruise set at 73 to 74. 13.5mpg. 37" tires, auto, 5.13 gears, heavy.

hell with any of the new wranglers. I'd only go with an '06 or newer with a I-6 4.0.

Since 06 was the last year of the 4.0 I don't think you'll be finding anything in the "or newer" category.

The 3.6 that was introduced in 2012 is worth the extra coin IMO. 0-60 times dropped from 11.4 seconds to 7.4 seconds (2-door model) and MPG went up 25% that year. I'd take a TJ with a 4.0 I-6 and $10k in my pocket over a 07-11 model.

I dont see the loud soft top thing , or the leaking, mine is super quiet, never had any leaks on my 13 or the 2010 we had. The material is like what was considerd sailcloth for a replacement top. Maybe Im just lucky.

I guess im saying it is quiter than any tj I ever had.

Agreed I've been in both 2dr and 4dr jks with soft tops in rain and 70+ and no complaints on the noise levels.

Daily driver at 14mpg:

It's a TJ, so I know it's not exactly what you are asking. But in my opinion, a 4 door JK would feel like a limo (in a good way) it would have so much more space. I love driving the TJ around town, the wife and I fight over it when the weather is nice.
