Anyone building any Rat Rods

damn, just get a VIN from a vehicle that you'll base your rig off of and build something and slap that VIN on it. Bodies are swapped and modified all of the time. Pre-77 shouldn't be an issue. Buy the title and VIN, register it, then modify however you want! Its not that difficult... The only issue I'd see is if the title and VIN haven't been registered for quite a long time
maybe you missed my reference to "scratch built" as in near nothing to start with, no frame no body, maybe a grill! Or maybe alot of tube and some fiberglass that resignates just a bit of a classic ride. So a couple of small rectangle plates with numbers solves the whole question, I legally doubt it. I guess I'll have to make friends with the DMV if I ever get the chance to make a go at my build Ideas. Don't they make a cliff notes edition for this topic.

I think you have to apply for a "custom built" title. Read up on killbillit dot com they have a TON of info for rat rods.

hell, I got a CJ vin and title for my buggy and its scratch built 100%
my point exactly I don't see you registering it that way and putting it on the road! Or can you? hmmmm. I think you should try it for our learning experience.

look over my rig and you won't find a vin number on it anywhere.Tagged and insured? Yep,been that way for 20 years.Any problems? Not a one even when she was being safety inspected.I started off with a cj3 that only had a vin number on the engine pad at the water pump. When I rebuilt the engine, that went bye bye.Now through the years, that cj3 became a M38.I know if somebody was to steal her,I'd have a hard time for identification but she would be stripped or sold for scrap anyhow.

I have been building a couple bike projects with my buddy Joe that could pass as Ratty. Turboed Jap 750 in a chopped HD frame. 2nd one is trying to be a old school flat track racer type deal done on a mini pit bike. For you older guys, think Jay Springsteen.
