Been thinking about getting one for a while, and after going to pick up a 1974 suzuki trials bike for my buddy and riding it, im thinking about getting one now but a newer one just because as nice as his 74 balanced and rode id love to see how much nicer the newer ones are. Anyone out this way riding these things? Been looking around at used ones but finding quick that NC is a bad place to be trying to find one.

Just have to stay on craigslist a bunch. Searching GasGas, Beta etc. I've got some video of Cassidy bouncing around DPG on his a few months back. Its an older Beta IIRC. Been thinking about picking one up as well. Just have too many other "needs" right now like a 14ft enclosed and suspension work on the CR.

Funny this thread comes up. I was just talking to a motocycle buddy here at work this morning about trials bikes and the inexplicable desire for something lighter to fall off of.

I'm in the same boat I want one but have to may toys to ride as is if a few guys got them I would probly get one

Yeah I've never really found a need for the searchtempest craigslist search but I've been living on it now haha. I'm trying to get one pretty soon I think, just one of the bikes need to go and I'm torn between if the xr or ktm is going to go up for sale.

My biggest thing now is not really ever having time to get to go riding any decent trails and have just got bored of just trying to ride fast so figured a trials is basically a mountain bike with a motor so I could play around the trails over beside the house and have a good time

I live about 25 minutes from TTC (Trials Training Center), here in Tennessee. There are some decently steep mtb trails over there. Any time we go ride, we always spend a solid chunk of time watching the throttle-twisters do their jumps and hops and mind-blowing ish.

I don't want one, but damn if the talented guys can't make those machines do some incredible things.

My buddy I ride with weekly has a Beta we take out and play around on from time to time..it's awesome …amazing the stuff at UNF you can ride the thing up. Buy lots of protective body armor, you'll need it. We've never ridden his without someone eating it pretty hard.

Hard to replace a good xr. ktms are out there all the time.

Keep the XR.

Since this has kinda turned into a generic dirt bike thread...
Anybody else watch Erzberg Rodeo last weekend? What an event. I'd love to go sometime.

I've always thought they'd be fun if found at the right price. I just tore my ACL and a few other things on the dirt bike this weekend. May actually sell it and switch to a trials bike for next season. No, I don't think they are any safer but may be ready for something different.

That race and the redbull rampage is still my two favorite events to watch. Hopefully one day get to see them.

With you being from concord, have you ever been to the competition wheels and cycles store? They are a registered gasgas dealer and was thinking about riding down to see if they have any used inventory.

No, but the address on their site looks like a residence unless my google maps streetview is off. Maybe they run it out of their house?
They do have a 2008 Beta listed in their classified section. May have to call or swing by soon. Thanks for the heads up.

That's the same think I thought when I looked it up too

What do these things run pricewise? I seen a 2015 Beta for like 7k, they are sweet but I doubt my old out of balance fatass would last very long with the wheels down on one.

ive been looking at the 90s and early 2000s ones. The cheapest ive seen was $900 for a 95 gasgas but most are around the 1500-2500 range just according to how new it is.

Correct, he runs it out of his garage. Jim's a really nice guy, easy to talk with and very informative. I ride an 06 Sherco 250, used to run uwharrie 2-3 times a week, now it seems to sit more than get ridden:( I also have an 07 ktm 300xcw and I find/found myself taking it only as a back-up in case I broke the trials. They're fun, really fun, in my opinion they can make you a much better rider when you get back on a normal bike. My brother and I have been riding since we were 3-4 and primarily ride woods/technical and having/riding the trials has been a great asset.

Does he have any used bikes down there or ever deal with any used bikes? I've been wanting to get down there and talk to him just haven't had the time to yet.

He does deal with used bikes and has them from time to time, he also consigns bikes or may know where one is at. I purchased my bike indirectly through him, he had it posted on his web site for a customer and put me in touch with him. It's been a couple years since I've been over there though. Give him a call and see what he's got, he'll probably know of something out there and as stated previously, search CL, especially raleigh and fayetteville, they seem to be the ones that produce the best results.

Just talked to Jim on the phone, super nice guy. Basically just told me to sent him an email with what im looking for and he'll see what comes up. Or if i find one i might like email it to him and he'll give me his opinion of it.

How do you like the Sherco?
This thread inspired me a little, so I just picked up a 2000 model Sherco 2.5 last weekend

Looking forward to beating on it (and myself). I'll post pictures of the x-rays. In the first 30 minutes of riding, I went over things I'd have never tried on my regular dirtbike.
