A guy in Ohio wants to buy my 44" boggers pretty bad.
I'm trying to work up a shipping price from my end, and he on his. we both at the same time tried to contact Fastenal after closing hours, so no luck so far.
I've never used the service before so I'd like to know what to expect.
Does it save anything to palletize the product myself?
Dude seems pretty honest and legit and is willing to PayPal me whatever I need and I'd love to see him end up with a set of badass tires for a very good deal like I got on them.

Also, check YRC freight. It was $105 to ship a 500lb bathtub from Charlotte to PA a couple months ago.

I shipped a Toyota axle housing to Washington State. Went on the website got a general quote and a shipping day to go to the store and drop off. They had a pallet there for me to use and we strapped it to the pallet using their materials. It arrived a couple days later and the guy was very happy.

The 3PL company that fastenal uses is pretty good. Get it on a pallet with dimensions and weight known. They will send you a quote.

I sent my Dana 300 in a crate on a pallet to Indiana for like $180. But I talked to the manager at one of the fastenal stores and they get all sorts of big stuff shipped.

I would use them again.

I'll pass this on. He's doing the legwork.

Much better that way. I was eager to sell so I set up everything with 3PL. After the quote was made and signed you can drop it off to ship at your convenience. No real time window that I remember.

ive had a couple things shipped to me from fastenal, its easier to pallet first and take it up there with tires. they may not have full size pallets when you get there. i checked a couple different shipping companies and it was cheapest through them. We even have a commercial shipping contract at my work but we don't use it much.
they give you a day to drop off and they will tell them when it shows up its pretty easy to use and the people at my local hub were really nice.

@XJsavage have you checked to see if your work has a shipping company?

I used UPS freight years ago when I shipped some 40x17 Hawgs to GA from NC. They wanted them palletized, so I sweet talked the store manager at the local Advance Auto to use one of their scrap pallets and their pallet wrapper to wrap them up. UPS took it from there.

I've also used Greyhound to ship a transfer case once...but it was just a NP231. I have heard of people using Fastenal to ship axle housings though.

Shipped some axles via Fastenal a few years back. Painless process and cheapest by far at the time. I handle LTL stuff daily and YRC is probably the most cost effective in most cases for people that don't have rates negotiated beforehand, but I do have the luxury of a loading dock at my office. There is sometimes an upcharge on the other end if they don't have a dock and it requires a liftgate truck. For some tires, who cares. Roll them bitches off the truck and keep it movin.

All of the stuff that we send out is either customer pickup or installed on sight finished product. I will run in and ask though.

Alright so, the buyer did go through Fastenal and I just received a phone call from a location in Ohio in which he is dealing with. The only responsibilities (albiet some volunteered) on my part as the seller is to palletize all four tires and get it down to the Fastenal location tomorrow at lunch time. Lucky for me it is only right down the street from where I work. They gave me the green light to palletize all four tires stacked up right with approved height up to 60 in tall.
I'll find out what all this ended up costing him I'm curious about this myself.

I shipped a bumper to NJ a couple weeks ago through them. Fairly easy and cost me $100. Ups quote was close to $300. Got there in about a week and a half. I’d use them again for sure.

I’m following for approx cost involved. My dad would like me to find some stock steel rims for his Astro Van down here in La. and send them north to Michigan.

Holy chit.
I am looking at an invoice right here for a 3,500 lb small generator.
From Wisconsin to Charleston, SC for $328
I couldnt imagine paying $300 for a bumper

$210 even is what he's paying to get the 44's from Columbia SC to Cincinnati Ohio.

Yeah, but that was mostly downhill.

It was size more than weight that made it cost so much through ups. I think it only weighed 65ish lbs.

But I’m totally with you. Shipping is insane.

My 300 was packaged with spare parts and an adapter ring so I was in the 115+lb range. I believe the best packing I could do was a 2' by 2' box which was actually double boxed. Buyer was also interested in insurance. Both UPS and FEDEX were being ridiculous and telling me I would have to drop it off at a freight location and costs close to $200 with a 2-day ground only??? After spending literally an entire weekend's worth of time packaging and running around I said fuck it and picked fastenal. The last thing I wanted was the package falling off of a conveyor table while in the hands of FEDEX or UPS.

I personally believe fastenal was the safest option. Strap that crate down to the pallet and it will be handled with ease instead of someone trying to man handle it from conveyor to truck to porch.
