Anyone want a free cage built?

If you can get a full cage, tied into the frame with seat mounts, with DOM, made, installed, and painted for $300-$350, then jump on it.
Maybe someone who buys tube by the truckload and does cages all the time could bust it out in half the time & cost, but I tend to think $600 is pretty fair.

I was talking just cost of the tube...he's charging double what the tube cost...

I'm not saying $600-$700 is not a bad deal...not at all...it's just not a "free" cage, only paying for tube...

BTW...your tires sure fit nicely into the bed of my D350 this morning...:)

I'll send Slade the bill for the fuel surcharge...;)

True True. 1 3/4 for a project like that should be $350~$375 for someone who doesnt buy bulk bundled tube. As it is, if it takes 3 sticks o tube to build a jungle gym, thats ten washington's a foot.

I think he needs to find a new supplier...or admit he's charging labor for $600-$700...
I got a quote of half that price for tube using his picture as the example...

1.75 DOM .120 is right at $5 per foot, so that cage takes 120' with no mistakes in bending or cutting, so there's $600 add 7% sales tax and there is another $42, plus delivery or picking it up(gas is expensive)

Do you have a problem with that? also that doesn't even cover welding/grinding consumables, i tig everything so that takes forever and the gas is expensive

I said i would build a free cage, i don't want to pay for someone else's cage. But i will do free labor for potentially more work and advertising

don't get me wrong...I think $600-$700 is a great deal for that cage (assuming somebody likes the design)...the quote I got was in the $1000 range for material & labor...

but, as Jon (StudNuts) said...120' is a high estimate, and kc4x4 is dead on about your price...

I know I could go today and buy enough tube to build that cage for under $350...you may not be able to get that kind of price on tube, but I would encourage you (for business reasons) to shop around, and ask some of the guys on the Eastern half of the state where they buy their stuff...

you may also factor in more "scrap" pieces on a project like that than the quote I got...assuming you have done too many in a Jeep before...

or, it's possible you just don't deal in enough volume to get the discounts needed...I really don't know because I don't have to buy the stuff on a regular basis...

good luck on the project, and we would love to see the pics when it's done...

:D
