Apparently, the Navy learned nothing from Pearl....

I'd say forgot like alot of stuff in this Country. To many generations have passed and people no-longer remember, or should I say care too.. Saddest thing is it hasn't been that long ago. Glad alot of personel get a Christmas on land though and I pray that large scale evil stays away.

I spent a little over three years (when in port) at Piers 11 & 12. The only thing in the photos that even look remotely familiar is the brick building, but I couldn't tell you what it was if my life depended upon it.

This was my "ride" in August of 1965...

Again, thank you for your service! My father marched in Honalulu on D Day, I'm a proud son of a Navy SeaBee Veteran!

Thanks guys. I'm an engineman (diesel mechanic). I love doing what I do and defending our country and if it means being away from my loved ones for the holidays that's the sacrifice I am willing to take so y'all can have happy holidays at home.

my dad did Westpac cruises in 65 and 66 on board a converted liberty ship that hauled"meat for the fleet" and agent orange. They helped supply the "brown water fleet" and were attacked by V.C. on motor boats once while sitting in port. They were taken out before they got near enough to do damage.

here Don,found a photo of his "ride". U.S.S. Regulus built in the summer of 44.Lost during Typhoon Rose in august of 71...

not a complete highjack but here goes....what branch or division? my pop was over around the same time.. Army Big Red One 1st Infantry Mechanized Unit, made 1st Sargent and was over A M60 and Morter Fire Control on a Tracked Personel Carrier. My uncle was also over their not quite sure of his rank and division just know he opperated a dozer and equip. opening up LZ's and such. Levers in one hand M16 in the other he said at times. My first Father in law served as Army Airborne and like my dad mostly refused to discuse what they went thru. I've studied on most all th major wars but Vietnam is unique for me.

Thats is very cool. I will find out what company he was in, but I know he was E-5 rank an was in infantry also.

I highly doubt that 9 of 11 of our carriers our in the same port at the same time. I would guess that they would be on opposite coasts. Why would we have 85% of our fleet to one coast

only 5 actual carriers in norfolk, the rest are on the pacific coast or out to sea. The other 4 "flat tops" aren't considered carriers. Thanks to all of you who served and continue to serve our country!

Spent some time in the Nam myself back in 1967. I was a 19 year old Marine serving with 2/9 up in the DMZ. Got kind of shot up with an AK47 and spent about 30 days on the USS Sanctuary hospital ship then flown to Great Lakes Naval Hospital for about 10 months recuperating. Marine Corps gave me a Medical Retirement at the ripe old age of 20. Still kickin 45 years later.
