Apparently, the Navy learned nothing from Pearl....

If we ever have to worry about our base in Norfolk being attacked, we have serious problems. You hate to say "never, no way it can happen"....but: Never, no way it can happen. Not in this day and age.

Packed in like that, one backyard dirty bomb and you could take them all out for several months to a few years for decontamination.

Ever been to that base? The docks aren't exactly near a main road. You have to drive in there a ways to get to them, and you have to go through a gate with security to get in. And that was before 9/11. I'm sure they have more now. Before 9/11, you could pretty much drive right in, they'd let you. The wife and I drove up to the gate, said we wanted to look at the ships. They were having a car expo for the servicemen, so the guards at the gate gave us a pass for the expo and told us how to get to the ships. I could have had a huge bomb in my Tahoe. We parked right behind the USS Abraham Lincoln and ate lunch. Nobody said a thing.
Bet that wouldn't be the case now.

Yeah good luck trying to do that now! The have military police and government employee cops ( flashlight cops basically) but that's the biggest naval base in the world. Security is tighter now they even give us a hard time about stupid shit like decals in vehicles and what not. It's for our own good though! If any of y'all are ever in the area and wanna check out ships just holler at me.
