ATLAS...Where to buy

so then should I drop the coin and build a 4.1 d300 or get the 4.3 atlas? I know people say they are close to price but I dont really consider $5 or so hundred dollars difference close. I guess I just need to crunch the numbers this afternoon!

IF you go with the 4:1 in the 300, you may want to consider the upgraded output shaft as well. I upgraded my 300 with 4:1, then later after I had broke the rear output, I upgraded it. I never upgraded the front output though. I went with the 4 speed atlas, is perfect for my gearing. T-176 and 4:56 in the tons with 44's.

Get the Atlas! Just my opinion. And neither 62:1 or 72:1 is low enough for me, I had a 75:1 combo at one time and 102 is WAY better for my type riding!

$500 or so difference in price also adds piece of mind that you won't break the case when you a really getting on it.......cheap insurance vs. a Stak RAC or buying an atlas later.....just my $0.02

You guys that have ran an Atlas or a doubler, which would you reccomend in a fool size bronco, ZF 5.8:1, tons w/ 4.56 and 42s? By the time all the parts/labor/shifters there isnt that much $$ difference.

Sorry for the hijack

yup...must've missed the manual part. sorry. I'd get as low as I could with a manual...or scrap it and get an auto.

word...but no, He IS running an auto (AW4).
either way, the good news is, that it sounds like the 4:1 range will be fine. Now its just basically a matter of dollars and cents...

Anyone running the atlas 4speed with an auto> im going to be running an AW4 which has a 2.80 first gear, 5.13 diffs with 39s...and later 42s. I am a little dissapointed with the gear choices of each case. the 5.44 case has 1.1, 2.0, 2.72, and 5.44..doesnt seem like the 2.0 and the 2.72 would be much difference in crawl ratio...29.1 and 39.1 with my setup. With the 5.44, my final ratio would be 78.1 and that should be fine for an auto. But it makes the other two gear choices seem useless. On the other hand, the 10.3 case has better ratios but the 10.3 is worthless with an auto and Im affraid the 3.8 will not be enough. Im starting to think I should just say to hell with it and run a 4.1 d300...Any input?

I've got the Atlas 4-speed (2:1, 2.72:1, 5.44:1 version) in my cab truck. I'm running a 5.0 HO, C6 tranny, 4.88 axle gears, and 42's. I like the 5.44 ratio when doing technical crawling, but prefer the 2.0 or 2.72 ratio when just driving down easy/moderate trails. The 5.44 ratio feels a little jerky and jumpy for when you are just riding the trails with a little bit of speed. I like having the low range options.

I am thinking 4.3 atlas..Im running a baja electric shifter with the aw4 with will allow me to stay in any gear I want just Like a man. valve body. with this my crawl ratios will be62.1 in first gear and second gear will be 34.1. seems like a good combo to me on paper I guess
