Baby surgery

My nephew was born with gastroskesis (spelling?). Sounds like the same as your child. He was born at duke and had the surgery. Thanks to the specialists there everything went perfect.
Prayers for a speedy recovery.

Update...

He's doing better now than he was this morning. His breathing is better and pain seems to be under control. He's got so much stuff hooked up to him it looks awful. Today was super emotional, I have really been upset today more than any part of this. It's just really hard to see him lay there and struggle for air. Luckily that's not the case anymore. I can't hold him or anything, so that really sucks too. We spend most of our time sitting outside the NICU in the waiting room. I go back about 2-3 times and hour, just easier to be one room over since he sleeps the whole time and I can't do anything.
We are at home now and have our daughter home for the first time. It's really great to see her and cuddle with her. Thanks for all the support folks. I got some good friends coming tomorrow and look forward to distracting conversation. Hoping he will continue to make improvements. I have really seen God answer prayer, and keep us strong in this thing.

Glad to hear things are looking up.

By the way his name is Elias Samuel Talton

Seems to be back and forth every time I turn around. In the middle of the night he had an episode where he stopped breathing. They basically done baby CPR and got him back stable. Seems fine now but man this is ripping me apart. My wife has been very strong but with everything going on, her hormones being crazy anyway, and boobs that are about to burst she is falling apart. She's trying to keep it together though. I'm just trying to be strong and be there for her.

He's doing a lot better now than he was. His breathing episode was due to him being heavily sedated. They backed that off a little, backed his oxygen off a little and will be reducing his pain meds a little later on today. So he's looking better now, just hope it stays that way thru the night. Always seems to be issues thru the night.

This was before the surgery, we got to hold him for the first time.

Everyone says he looks just like me.

By the way his name is Elias Samuel Talton

Two very strong Biblical names. Elias - "God the Lord; the strong Lord" and Samuel "God has heard". I can't make any promises on the Talton part, though... :)

Continued prayers for a quick recovery and a sense of peace for your family.

Today was a better day. He finally pooped which is what we bee praying for. Never thought I would ask God for a dirty diaper. But He answered prayer and I've never been so happy to see doo doo. He made it all thru the night since 6pm yesterday without a breathing episode.
He's never had anything to eat since birth, so he will be able to eat in the morning!

Great to hear.

It is common for babies to lose 10% of their body weight during the days after birth (happened to my boy and my niece), so don't freak out if that happens. It comes back fairly quickly once they start getting regular feedings of breast milk and/or formula.

Yeah he's lost a few ounces. They told us it would happen. You can tell he's hungry though! I went back to work today but am leaving early to go see him again. I can't wait to see my boy! Every day is one day closer to him coming home!

My boy is doing good. Still being fed by a tube. Try to feed him with a bottle but he won't have anything to do with it. Mostly because he's asleep. I like steak, but try putting in my mouth while I'm sleeping and I don't want it. They said it's because his bilirubin (Billy Reuben) levels are high. Google it cause I can't explain it...

Anyway he's doing better. He has these gagging episodes while being fed, actually gagged up his tube so they ran it thru his nose. They said his bilirubin levels are coming down and once they get down to a normal level he should start eating normal.

This is cool, just saw this post. Praying for you guys. If he gets a belly button I am super jealous. I was born 39 years 10 months and few days ago with this same thing. I spent 3 months in Baptist hospital. All they did back then was stuff you like a bear and pray. I got really bad infected and they opened me up. Mom said my insides looked like coblestones.I am super happy he is doing well and even happier he is being treated with a great deal more experience with this stuff. He will be great I played sports and do everything I want. Congrats and prayers going out for the little man.

He is doing really well now thanks for all the prayers folks. Keep them up. Looking like he is coming home Tuesday with a slight possibility of coming home tomorrow!!! This time last week I was crying my eyes out as I watched my little boy cry in pain while starving for air.
God is good!
