Battery impact recommendation

If i have just a socket on the compact unit, it will amaze you what it can break loose. But once you start adding extensions and swivels, the added mass and slop really impact the performance.

QFT. Some of the times when mine wouldn't do the job, it was because I had the wrong size socket. If there's any slop between the socket and the nut, it won't do shit.

Ebay has always been the best source for deals on bare tools. The key is to find the correct part number on Milwaukee's website and then search that number on ebay. The first 4 digits indicate the tool, and a -20 is a bare tool, -21 or -22 etc are kits with battery, charger, case, and so on. -80 are refurbished, which used to be a good deal a few years ago, but now they seem to be about as expensive as sale prices on new ones.

Most of the big online shops also list there (CPO Milwaukee, Acme, Toolbarn, etc. ) so you can get a feel for pricing real quick. Also there are deals on CL and FB marketplace. I jusg bought the M18 chainsaw for $200 in New condition locally. Best price on ebay was $290.

How do you like that chainsaw? I've been eyeing getting a battery saw, but it's hard to believe 18 volts will provide enough umph

Ive got the 18 pole saw and its amazed me.
Ive taken a few ~6" and under trees down because I was in my hand when clearing the fence line.
Next to the side grinder my favorite battery tool.
Before the summer is over Im buying the hedge trimmer too. I never trim the bushes primarily because I hate dragging drop cords out and putting them back up 5 minutes later.

Don't they have a trimmer that can go on the same pole as the saw? Some kind of multi-tool thing?

... but yeah there's about 8 MWKee tools I really want

my cheap ryobis :flipoff2: at your M's.

Seriously, for home use and price point I've been satisfied. Couldn't justify the M's and already had some R's in the stable. I wouldn't part with my dewault drill though. I got the ryobi hedge trimmers and actually use them because it's easy. I'll save $ on extension cords in the long run since I always find a way to cut em up. It'll be nice for hunting trails too. After seeing @Tacoma747 's Milwaukee chainsaw work, I might have to get one. I doubt the ryobi will hold a candle to it though due to the low amp/hr batteries I have.

I've had 18v Porter Cable tools that I put through way more abuse than they ever should have taken, and upgraded to the 20v PC stuff when it came out, including a 1/2 impact gun. I will sing their praises until the cows come home for home owner/weekend warrior duty. The only reason I went Team Red was because I was gifted a set. When we move, the PC stuff will be my home/garage set while my Red stuff will stay in the shop.

Can't agree more. My Craftsman 18V nicad tools went 10 years on the original batteries but 6 months on the "Genuine" Sears replacement batteries. Dropped by HD to get something, saw the Ryobi 6 tool kit on sale and bought it. Added several other one+ tools and have been extremely happy. Even bought the 3/8" ratchet that you can't seem to get in the US.

I have the skill saw, sawzall, trim saw, angle grinder, 1/4" and 1/2" impacts, drill, string trimmer, blower (use it for small areas, got a good Husky backpack blower for the yard) ,3/8" ratchet and the fan. I mostly run the 4 AH batteries that I got a 2 for 1 deal on. They go everywhere.

That angle grinder saved my butt at Dixie Run last year.

For my use, they are great and now about 2 years old. I'm a home user though, In a commercial use case, I would go with M.

Highly impressed so far, with caveats.
1. Chain came off twice in the first 4 cuts. I told my wife I need to read the manual since I clearly don't know how to use a chainsaw. If you've seen some of my other posts, you'll know thats probably not true.
2. It's frigging long. It won't fit in the same case that my 80cc Stihl fits in. It's nearly 2" too long. It feels fine in your hand, but looks a little funny.
3. It is almost useless with a 4.0ah or less battery. My 4.0s allow me to make 5-10 cuts on 6-8" softwoods before they overheat and/or run out of juice.

Battery life with the 9.0HD battery is great. I'd love to try out a 12.0 battery, but I haven't found a way to justify buying it yet. Also haven't used it enough to kill off a full 9.0 batt yet. But I'm impressed so far. Probably an hour of usage, and no more chain popping off, so maybe it was chain stretch or sprockets wearing in or something.

I've used porter cable for years and it has never let me down once. I may have to try this Milwaukee driver though and see what all the hype is about.

The brushless 1/4" impact is nice. You were at Dixie last year??

The two things I like about Milwaukee is they have yet to obsolete batteries, generational battery changes work across all M12 and M18 tools (I have 10 yearold M12 batteries I still use).
The second is the Ergonomics of the tools, for me and the way I use my tools, the switches and lights are in / point in the right spot.
A shop I do work at frequently uses dewalt, and they are fine tools, but do not adhere to either of the above statements. Big benefit of dewalt is you can get batteries and chargers almost anywhere, Milwaukee is slightly less readily available in smaller towns.

I have a M18 hedge trimmer. You are welcome to borrow it to try it out or just keep borrowing it the couple times each year you will actually need it.

Something is wrong in HD website for the ryobi 1/2" impact. Add to cart from search for $109 with battery. Click tool only goes to $139, click back to tool with battery goes to $209. RYOBI 18-Volt ONE+ Lithium-Ion Cordless 3-Speed 1/2 in. Impact Wrench Kit with (1) 4.0 Ah Battery, 18-Volt Charger, and Bag-P1833 - The Home Depot

I have a bunch or Ryobi 18v and 40v tools. Always been satisfied for the price. I have an old 1/2 impact already but its been run over by my truck (still works fine), but I ordered a backup.
