bead balancing

I haven't tried bead balancing and was curious about 2 things:

#1: When using beads to balance, are they used in combination with weights or should all weights be taken off?

#2: Will more than a recommended number of ounces for a tire size throw balance off or only fine tune it more?

Thanks ahead of time.

use copper BBS cheaper and work just as well...

no copper use less surface area for same weight.
And dont rust like steel.
And they are cheaper

Try an 8 oz cup of antifreeze. (For 44's or so). It doesn't make noise like bbs, or blast the insides of the rims, and it won't freeze in the winter either.

thanks for the link it has XMLs on there and they require 14oz to balance (325/85r16)

I put 10oz of tactical bbs (.2g) in each one of my 33 boggers and it balanced them out fine. I can take it down the interstate and all

I prefer the plastic ones since they don't have any effect on the inside of the tire or rim, plus they make less noise at low speeds. I can't hear anything in my truck anyway  I don't like the idea of liquid inside my tires, maybe it's just me...who knows.

I ran 10oz in my 38.5 SXs on H1s with cut mag runflats and they rode like glass down the highway! Better, actually, than my XZls do with regular rim weights on them. I couldn't tell I was riding on bias ply tires.

The AirSoft BBs came in a 10,000 count container and would do all 4 tires for just less than 15 bucks.

Mine are with teh standard weights but still suck, thinking of switchin to antifreeze this week.
Think I should pull off the weights, or just leave them?
Also - any neat tricks for getting it in through the valve? Figured I'd pull the stem, but that's still not a very big hole.
(Oh and I guess deflating first is a good idea huh...)

I drive mine on the street and here's what I found with a 50/50 antifreeze/water mix;
I have to be up to around 30 psi in the tires or I have severe shimmy so I can't air down unless I have a way to pump them back up.
Smooth roads are fine, still have a little shimmy going thru 35-40 mph but clears out after that.
Pot holes or really rough roads the bumps I guess "scatter" the fluid, it'll shake for 50' or so then settle back out. This is worse when hitting a big pothole or bump in a curve.

Hope this helps, seems to me any big tire has a certain speed you always get a shimmy.

To get it in I got the tire high enough of the ground to put another floor jack under the tire tread, removed the valve core and jacked it up just a little.
Put the amount of fluid I needed in a container, found a hose to fit the tire valve and into the container, let the tire tread jack down and it siphoned it in.
Might have to do it a few times.

You could gravity do it to, it'd just take longer.

i have 10oz of airsoft in my 35 12.50 maxxis big horns. smooth as hell and not a sound out of them.

can you get the airsoft bbs in through the vavle stem? (with the core out)

No, they're too big, plus you'd be there all day sticking in thousands of BB's in one by one. It's easier to take your high lift jack and use it to break the bead on just one side of the tire, then pour them all in, then reset the bead.
Here are some pics taken from this thread on it over at FSB.

Run a hose from cup of anti freeze to valve stem. press tire to create vacume.

The green airsoft BBs work the best :flipoff2:

so with DIY beadlocks and 36s, I can throw 8oz of BBs in the tires and the balance will be better? I can't imagine it being worse. I have had a shake around 35-40 no matter how I rotate or air the tires.

On my 78 F150, Ive got 18oz of .20 gram (white airsoft bbs from walmart) in each of the 42X15-16.5 bias tsls mounted on 12 bolt h1s with cut down mag beadlocks. The truck has a SLIGHT shimmy at 45-50 mph but runs smooth otherwise til 65 where the truck just wont go any faster (aerodynamics of a house).

My 03 F250, my dads 06 chevy 2500 HD, and my brother in laws 07 1500 chevy all with 35X12.50s (315/75-R16) are running 6 oz of magnum dynabeads and they are smooth up to 90 mph. None of the wheels have external weights at all.
