Bear Creek Arsenal

The week I am in Vegas and I miss all the excitement. Heard white a few of the Mexican restaurants were closed for the day also.

I met a guy at the Mexico City airport last week that had just been deported. He was working for a roofing company in Houston. He was complaining that ICE wouldn’t let him grab any clothes or anything before they deported him, just whatever he had on his person. He said when Obama was in office, ICE was nicer and would let you go home and pack a small bag first. He was looking for a ride back to Houston.

I'm all for deporting people, and if you break the law you reap what you sow - but I do believe in some human decency. At least give them a (very) brief moment to get some shit together and say goodbye to loved ones, lock up the house, get some cash and a change of clothes or whatever.

I have to disagree with you there. When they arrest a criminal for robbing a bank, can he ask to run through the Wendy's drive-thru on his way to jail? Because, you know it's going to be a while before he gets to taste a Baconator and fries, so let's treat him with decency.....

No. The money they made here illegally was ILLEGAL. The bank robber doesn't get to keep the money he stole just because he's going to jail. He may have worked VERY hard to steal that money, but either way it was illegal money.

There are LEGITIMATE ways to become an American citizen. We need to stop letting people sneak in the back door when there's a line of people waiting patiently at the front door.

Funny how even still the dude didn't learn his lesson. So he was aware that ICE will deport him (eluded to that with the Obama administration bit), he got deported and now is trying to get back to Houston AGAIN. So the dude is a roofer - do they NOT put roofs on in Mexico?

Not with American dollars they don't.....it's obvious. The for and against is all about the American dollar.
I agree 100% with your post. Bye. I"d add seizure of ilegally funded property to the list.

But I'm a fundamental A-hole like that.

I just thank God I was born here. If I were born on the other side of the border, I'd be one of those criminals y'all hate.
I'm not saying its right, I'm saying I understand it.
I know the Bible says obey the law of the land. I also know I put taking care of my kids before EVERYTHING.

This shows you have no understanding of the situation in most Mexico. The short answer is, No not in most areas. And the ones where construction is ongoing its mostly contractors from the US oddly enough.

So to poke tha' bear...

Fundamentally it's ok to break laws for a greater good? I earnestly get where your coming from, my family and friends have done mission work in lots of foreign countries.

I really feel like those that do things through improper channels causes greater harm and burden on the whole system.
Clean up the system. Take out the garbage and excess. Then use those funds for all the bandaids for out reach or streamlined imagration.
A lot in a few words I know. But I can't agree wrongs make it right when the situation appeals.

My favorite part of the article:

the Bear Creek arrests have had a domino effect — San Felipe, Aye Toro and El Molcajete Mexican restaurants were closed for lunch today (photo right), several car washes and other Latino-owned businesses have closed their doors. Some students at Lee County High School have reportedly checked out early today as well.

My roofer comment was mostly tongue-in-cheek, but it speaks to a bigger problem. There is a right way of doing things and a wrong way to do things. I fully understand the need to put food on the table for your kids. I also believe that these same kids need to be shown that there are laws and consequences for breaking them. If not, we spiral into a lawless society. Obviously to him, the Obama era ICE deportation was a slap on the wrist. Perhaps if he had even made an effort in the past two years to become a legal citizen of the US, I'd have more sympathy for his plight.

The bank robber didn't pay taxes on his income. I'd bet that in this case, the employment tax, etc is all being taken out of their check. I knew some people that are now legal, that when they were illegal they still pay yearly taxes too. Figure that one out...

But had they been here legally, they could have filed an income tax return and depending on their tax situation, received a refund. Again, no sympathy.

No sir. I never said that.
In fact I specifically said

I'm not saying its right, I'm saying I understand it.
I know the Bible says obey the law of the land. I also know I put taking care of my kids before EVERYTHING.
I dont think armed robbery is right, nor murder. But if one of my kids was starving or doing without, Id prioritize their comfort over your life.

Again, not talking about right. I am a flawed sinner of a man, and I recognize that. I am merely telling you my personal feelings.

I get it. I do.
I am not saying you are wrong, in fact the l;awful good side of me agrees with you 100%.

I can also tell you telling a man who doesnt have shoes or clothes that ft properly because he cant afford them, that he needs to man up and pay the $10k and wait the 4-5 years it takes to become a citizen before he takes care of his family...thats not a reasonable position, either.

I cant really explain my feelings here because Im internally conflicted. I support a border a wall and think its a good idea. I can also tell you if the shoes were reversed Id try to climb, cut, bulldoze, trench under that MF'er every ay I could to find a better life for my family.

In fact what really chaps my ass is we have a whole lot of worthless citizens sitting on their ass collecting a check for nothing, who can work but wont - and dont make this a race debate they exist in all races - yet we support them. Yet a man who wants to come here and contribute we want to push him away. What did one do that the other didnt? Just happened by fate to be born within these man drawn boundaries.

And that I why we could at the least treat them with enough respect to allow saying goodbye to family and pack a small bag.
Lawbreakers or not - they are still people. And in my book, people deserve being treated as people.
Maybe b/c I don't automatically put all illegal residents in the same category as bank robbers and murderers, or even thieves (although it's not hard to argue they are the latter).

If I were that guy in Mexico City, you bet your ass I'd be hopping back to Houston too so I could at least kiss my wife and kids goodbye and lock up my house.

... and how do you know he didn't?
Do you know easy it is (NOT) to become a legal citizen? It's not like to your just walk down to Citizenships 'R Us and pick it up.
You're right about their being a bigger problem - it's that our immigration system is so f&cked up that people don't have any choice but to do what you call the "wrong" way.

1) Curious what their wages were, could make sense how they could do their giveaways and sell what appeared to be a decent product for as cheap as they were.
2) I'm with Ron...if I wasn't born here, you can bet your sweet ass, I'd try to get here. But I'll also be the first to say, do it the right way
3) Also curious what jobs they were doing and how many here would the same job.

Just a hunch....

I know that the process is difficult. My ex-in-laws both went through it. They were Russian immigrants who left everything they had there to move temporarily to Italy where they sold what little they were able to leave Russia with to afford the tickets to America. They immediately started the process to get their green cards and formalize their citizenship. Once they touched ground on US soil and began the process, their relatives in Russia were informed that they would be arrested if they ever even visited Russia again.

It was all worth it to them. Worth every penny they spent and every hour, week month and year they spent on the process. It SHOULD be worth it to everyone looking to come to this country and make a better life for themselves.

I have also spent some time doing missionary work in Clarkston, Georgia - a suburb of Atlanta. The most diverse square mile in the United States. Just about every ethnicity and people from every country in the world, resettled refugees learning to live together the right way. So yeah..... I'm all about immigrants and refugees. Just not illegal ones.

There are plenty of people living happily In Mexico that don’t want to come here even though they could have a better life here. I’ve been working with a Mexican man for nearly 15 yrs. He and his wife both worked to get their green cards and do it the right way. They go back nearly every year and vacation and visit family, that want to stay in Mexico.

It’s fine to have sympathy for people but these people have likely broken multiple laws, not just crossing the border illegally.

What kind of officer would want to take someone back to their house, where there are likely more illegals, so Pedro can go inside for who knows what? I imagine in today’s world the majority wouldn’t.

So we all get hung up on what the problem and solution are from our American perspective. But the true root cause is that basically every country from Mexico on south is such a crap hole that it is worth going through Mexico or hopping on a stick raft to get out of there. I don't know the answer, but the people aren't coming here because of a lack of border control, it's the poor living conditions in all the other countries. And to some extent the flawed mystique of life in America. So whatever bandaid we come up with isn't going to solve the problem. But a free Transamerican shuttle from Mexico to Canada might be a good start :D

What I find ironic is how AOC and Bernie Sanders keep pushing the Socialist agenda like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. There might be sliced bread involved in Socialism, but you will be waiting in line for it. There is such a thing as "The American Dream". There is no "Venezuelan Dream" or "Canadian Dream" or even a "Finland Dream" (they probably have the highest degree of success with Socialism, but at like a 57-65% tax rate) Seriously Socialist countries like China build walls to keep people in. Capitalist countries (like the US) have to build walls to keep people out. To use an analogy, Capitalism is like a bank. You allow people to come in and out to use it properly, but it's fortified to keep bad people from coming in and just taking stuff. On the other hand, Socialism is like a prison. Everyone is equal inside (oh.... except the people with guns are in control) and you get free food and a place to stay and health care.

I have expressed my thoughts on this subject many times on this forum.

I do fully understand the laws, and the intent they have regarding illegal immigration.

It is very easy to say breaking the law is breaking the law.

But for the majority here that support zero compassion for the criminals we are speaking of, have you ever gotten to know one of these people?

At my previous job, I did get to know one of these people. He was brought here as a child, and I spent 8 years doing everything humanly possible to help him become a us citizen.

After close to $20,000 spent and all the years he worked at it, I realized that for him, it was impossible. The requirements our government set up to allow people to become citizens is beyond what almost any of you would believe.

He is the most hardworking person I have ever met, and untill he had lived here for almost a year had never owned a pair of shoes in his life. He owned his first pair of shoes at age 12.

If I had been his father, I would have done the exact same thing.

"Finland Dream"

Finland is one of the countries that are considered part of the "Nordic Model".
Finland, Iceland, Switzerland, etc.
They were socialist in the 50s-60s ... and successful ... but as their wealth dropped they realized early on that true socialism does not work.
Switzerland was at one time the wealthiest nation in the world and after becoming 100% socialist slipped to 14th in about 10 years.
They quietly stepped away from socialism as they developed the Nordic Model.
It's a Welfare State. Funded by free enterprise.
Free open enterprise and capitalism with the holy crap taxed out of it.
These Nordic Model countries are also the highest taxed in the world ..... commercially and personal.
They also have the highest number per capita of medically treated depression cases in the world.

There is a reason we have the American Dream ...... it's still the best place to be.

They also have fairly homogeneous population makeup, which is an intangible that makes things work better.
