Tennessee has the right idea:

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 19; Title 20; Title 29, Chapter 34; Title 54 and Title 55, relative to civil liability.

(a) A person driving an automobile who is exercising due care and injures another person who is participating in a protest or demonstration and is blocking traffic in a public right-of-way is immune from civil liability for such injury.

Bill would make drivers immune from civil liability in protests

We need protests. We all have the right(privileges) to protest. I don't want to see the US when we don't have that ability. But, protest your dumbass somewhere not on a road. If you are on a road, the be prepared to move.

I don't think this law will protect you from blasting 55 through a pack of people on the highway. But, if you slow down to parking lot speed you should be fine.

Agree with ^. There's a fine line between freedom of speech and unruly protest, but I don't want the government billing me because we disagree on the semantics. But protest should bring attention to your ideal, not interfering with the lives of others and blocking roads.

As a libertarian, this law does not bother me

FYI I will mow your asses down @ 65mph if I were in this situation. I'm 100% for the right to peaceful assembly but these people are not peaceful.

^What he said. If the opportunity ever arises I guarantee my old dodge will have a few "protestors" stuck in the grill

especially when you consider that insurance will rarely cover damage

If I'm in the front I'm not stopping but what concerns me is if I'm in the second or third row of cars.I doubt I will ever have that problem around here but I travel a lot and usually have a trailer of some kind behind me.So any evasive maneuvering will be difficult.Try to get the door open and there will be trouble.
