Best community service places?

i volunteer at the local free clinic (just because).

check yours out, if they can't find something for you to do, i bet they could point you in the right direction.

Not sure what type of place qualifies, I've been doing some volunteer wrenching at the wheels4hope.org place in E.Raleigh.

I also did some VOLUNTARY community service there when I lived in Raleigh - great bunch of folks there, and you get to work on cars for a good cause.
