Brown Mountain New Year's Day

If you don't mind another Newb, I will tag along as well. Not sure in what yet, but will have 4wd :driver:

Sounds good guys. This is the perfect run for newbs. Easy trails, lots of experienced wheelers, and a couple of jackasses:D (I will let you guys decide who they are after the run.)
Nathan, I still need to get up with you about those wheels, it has been crazy here.

No problem, I still have them, just haven't taken the X-terrains off yet. Later.

As for Brown being open, it was last year
Last year we went on the 31st.

I plain to be back for this years years run. I have the mondays off after christmas and new year day. I made the trail last year in the same stock long bed GMC pickup. I also got it to the top of Kodak rock this year. But not over it, parked and watched others play on the rocks. then drove back out the way I came in.

If I am off I will have to make this just to get out. I haven't been to brown in years, but stock will definately get around up there. Have seen a 2wd chevy van up on the backside camping before:Rockon:

Keep the details posted, and as for richlands. Since the store reopened I don't know if they'll let you, but when it was closed during part of the construction a few friends parked their tow rigs there and nothing was said. There is plenty of field like space there and i'm sure they would let you park if you walk in and ask.

Anyone know if the old fire trails are still cool? Been 2-3 years since I have been on those. I KNOW those will stop the DD's. There is one dropoff on the backside of the mountain that eats driver fenders on Broncos:D

Here are some Pics. of last years last ride. that ATV is floating! Thats one Uglyjeep off road in the mud hole. I stayed out of it.

I was wondering that myself. I couldn't remember if it was the 31st or 1st wehn we went last year. The website says it is open through the 1st, so we should be okay. I will try and get ahold of an actual person and ask. If it doesn't work out on Sunday, we can always go Saturday.

***Edit*** I just spoke with Janice from the forest service and she assured me they will be open until 8PM on the 2nd.

are there requirements to attend this even... as i haven't been to a NC4x4 even yet...let me know.

Well yes there is a small requirment to ride on this ride. the requirement was set last year by Uglyjeepoffroad. I did not know about it last year. But this year I will have a clean truck with lots of Armerall on the wheels just like Uglyjeep!! You will need a $5 dallor bill. for a pass at the gate. unless the price went up.

Very funny. You just wait and see what kind of shape your truck is in this year after I "spot" you through the hard parts.:D

Day pass is still $5.
We will probably make our way back to the top and have lunch on the rock face again. From there we can decide to back track down trail 1 or follow the #8 loop.
I am guessing we will be meeting in the Hickory area at or around noon. This should put us on the trails by 1:30 and leave plenty of time to get off the trails by dark.
I will finalize the meeting place, but I am thinking it will be a bit further towards Granite Falls at an Exxon station, that way we can gas up and get snacks/lunch.

POst #16 updated with people's names...
