I just want to find somewhere close to ride that is mild. My 4 yr old son would love it...but I can't haul him for hours to wheel and back in a day...or risk the vehicle or ourselves on the super hard wheeling trails...

then brown mtn is good for you! there's not a lot for 4x4s to go on, but it's easy stuff you can cut your teeth on.

my crew is in just keep us updated work days watever we need more trails and i cant travel to the big stuff due to fuel price

Negative on the camping, they have it there, pretty nice sites as well. But if you pop a top on a they take your ass to jail
I'd rather camp on Wilson Creek anyway

Have about 3-4 friends with private property/cabins up there.

I'm jumping on this thread to stay informed.
That area: pisgah, wilson creek, all the way to linville and past boone and then back down towards banner elk and onwards is friggin nice to hike, camp and take a lazy drive through the old roads.
I've often wanted to go thru the brown mt area but heard exactly what you guys are saying... its just one trail for us.
I've got some topo maps and that place looks like it used to have trails more than what it does now... just seems that the BM area got enclosed. It has potential.
Keep this thread bouncing and I'm in for whatever can help get you guys out westNC another place to ride.
BM is a little farther for me than URE but the NC mts are a great place to just simply 'be' and relax.
