Brown mountain?

I may be up for the trip. Depends on when I get the order for my D-shaft and shocks in hopefully today

Ill be coming from Maggie Valley. How far off of 40 is it?

It is about 30 mins from Morganton, or 40 mins from Hickory from 40.

We met last year at a large Exxon Station on 321 between Granite Falls and Lenoir.
How about 9 at the Exxon, plan to leave there by 9:30 and be at the trailhead by 10?

I wish that it was on Sunday, I have to work Monday night and will not be able to make it.

Sorry, man.
Maybe you could head out early from the trails to make it to work?

For the Raleigh guys, I don't want you to be disappointed in the trail, it is not a hard core run. It is more of a fun run.
If we don't have anywhere close to as many people as we had last year, we may be able to explore a few "alternate" trails though.

We will meet you all at the trail head, should be 4 or 5 Jeeps in the mix. Had a great time last year.. No carb issues this year, now it is fuel injected :driver:

just to let you guys know they have smoothed trail 1 out all the way to the top. No challanges at all.
is the first rock garden still there?

I dont think I will be goin on this particular event, bt I am trying to go this week with a friend.

Will someone please give me directions to brown mt from Charlotte? I have been before, but I forget.

Take 40 to morganton, take exit 105...go right. Take 18 all the way through town until it turns into 181. Take 181 until you see brown mtn beach rd on the right. You cant miss it, right after a space station. Take BMB for ~4 miles and brown mtn is on the left.

Pretty much just take 18/181 all the way from I40 until you see BMB rd.

Thinking about rolling out for this run, but not sure...

Sadly the ongoing project doesn't have recovery points yet- but I've built it a bit so far. I've never been to brown mtn, I see that stockers can handle it so I figure I'll be alright...

I just don't want to be that idiot who goes wheeling with no where to be towed from, I know some clubs won't let you go on runs without them... What's the skinny for this run?

i wont be the one to say whether or not you need tow points for this run or not, but with a lifted XJ with 31s, you should have absolutely no trouble on these trails, i cant say for a fact, but i dont remember anyone even being strapped last new years that we met up there

Think Falls Dam at UNF and you have seen what Brown Mtn. is like.

I wouldn't think so. It's still about a 30 minute drive from that Exxon. Last year we just filled out our passes and dropped our monies into a lock box at the trailhead. Honor system style.

I mentioned that it wasn't like this when I was there last, earlier this year. You need to buy the passes at one of the convenience stores prior to arriving. The pay-at-the-trailhead system was gone.

I guess I need to take a ride and make sure of where the passes are sold.

As for the tow hook issue, Stump was the only one who took a strap last year, and that was in a long wheel base, stock pickup.
You should be fine. If it comes down to it, we will let you hookup the strap to your own Jeep and deal with any "consequences".

Yeah that was us strapping him out of a high center. But that longbed truck with street tires did great the rest of the day. You should be fine.

After reading the post on this page, it would seem you don't need a buggy. Take your Dodge.

It depends on what trails you take. There are some quad trails that can be a lot of fun. And There is more than a day's worth of trails you can drive...so it all depends. Either way, yeah..the rockwell buggy would be overkill/too wide.

I made it up OK. just got in a hurry to get off the trail before dark. There is a good pic on the thread from last years run, it was taken about 2 secands before i needed the strap. bad chose of a lane.

Looking like I will be at Wilddunes on the Isla of Palms for new years day.
