Got another check mark for something I wanted to do this past weekend. I competed in the Tennessee knock out extreme enduro. It was by far the roughest race I've ever competed in on a bike. 180 competitors and only 38 qualified for the sunday race. I completed one 14 mile lap and finished in 90th place after starting on the second to last row (5 riders in a row leaving 1 minute apart) and passing around 90 riders(hell of a lot of traffic). The majority of riders quit and did not finish one lap. This was like racing 14 miles of rattle rock, no cruising through the woods going to the next obstacle, it was nonstop hell for 14 miles. It took me just over 2 hours to complete the lap. After serious fear of a heat stroke (more than a few riders left in the meat wagon with heat exhaustion) and starting to feel dizzy my self-preservation switch kicked on and I decided to hang it up and not go out for a second lap. Several riders who did complete the second lap(only 38 total) decided to not run the next race (this event is a series of races over 2 days eliminating the lower finishers until there were only 13 left in the final race) for fear of serious health risks. Cody Webb pretty much smoked everyone. I watched dozens of riders bust their ass on the starting line where you had to jump a good sized log and then make a quick left hand turn.I came off the start like a pro, got the hole shot in my group and was able to check out on most of them, that was the highlight of my race. I got knocked down an embankment and carried my bike 20 yards or so up the side of the mountain(with help from another unlucky rider whom I also helped) back on the trail around hour one of the race. It was bad luck and it sucked every bit of energy I had…I'll be back next year. I also plan on running KOM (king of the motos) next year in Cali. I'd love to hang a KOM plaque beside my KOH plaque in the garage I wonder if anyone has both of those?
A few pics and a clip of my start (far outside)

Going up the creek bed with spectators all over the place reminded me of backdoor at KOH.

Badass man! My daughter and I were watching 2015 TNKO videos Sunday. I was showing her how the guys work the bike and foot placement. That creekbed ain't no joke!

That's insane stuff.

X games has this, but they only go a few laps in an arena, and it still looks tougher than woodpecker lips.

I think Travis Wilson ran this race too.

Thats awesome! It's fun to watch the hard enduro stuff and pretend in my head that I could do that, then I go out in the yard and spinout on an easy hillclimb...

Major kudos for finishing a lap, and smart move to stop before you completely overtaxed your body.

Did you run trials tires?

I'm 46 and am slowly figuring out my body, although in decent shape, isn't 25 anymore.
I've run trials tires in GNCC and some other series that have rocky courses and have always told people they are like cheating (krawlers of bike tires) most guys look at the non aggressive looking tread and don't believe me. Confirmation came when entering this race and the only rule on tires was no trials tires, so what's that tell you? I ran a Kenda Equilibrium(rear) with tubeless systems in the front and rear (6-8 psi) which is a hybrid trials/knobby which was a legal tire.

You are much better on a dirt bike then I will ever be. Great job!

I have a trials rear tire on my KTM 150XC, not sure how I like it, its nice on the rocks, but it doesn't bite well in the dirt sometimes.

Back in the day I use to look at coverage of the Black Water 100 in 3 and 4 wheel action magazine.Pretty crazy stuff for a boy barely in his teens at the time.

Old boy used to live in our area raced the Blackwater and I caught some show that covered the race and seen him on TV. Man I thought that guy was awesome! He used to bomb around on a WR500, that thing was a beast!! Good memories.
