Got another check mark for something I wanted to do this past weekend. I competed in the Tennessee knock out extreme enduro. It was by far the roughest race I've ever competed in on a bike. 180 competitors and only 38 qualified for the sunday race. I completed one 14 mile lap and finished in 90th place after starting on the second to last row (5 riders in a row leaving 1 minute apart) and passing around 90 riders(hell of a lot of traffic). The majority of riders quit and did not finish one lap. This was like racing 14 miles of rattle rock, no cruising through the woods going to the next obstacle, it was nonstop hell for 14 miles. It took me just over 2 hours to complete the lap. After serious fear of a heat stroke (more than a few riders left in the meat wagon with heat exhaustion) and starting to feel dizzy my self-preservation switch kicked on and I decided to hang it up and not go out for a second lap. Several riders who did complete the second lap(only 38 total) decided to not run the next race (this event is a series of races over 2 days eliminating the lower finishers until there were only 13 left in the final race) for fear of serious health risks. Cody Webb pretty much smoked everyone. I watched dozens of riders bust their ass on the starting line where you had to jump a good sized log and then make a quick left hand turn.I came off the start like a pro, got the hole shot in my group and was able to check out on most of them, that was the highlight of my race. I got knocked down an embankment and carried my bike 20 yards or so up the side of the mountain(with help from another unlucky rider whom I also helped) back on the trail around hour one of the race. It was bad luck and it sucked every bit of energy I had…I'll be back next year. I also plan on running KOM (king of the motos) next year in Cali. I'd love to hang a KOM plaque beside my KOH plaque in the garage I wonder if anyone has both of those?
A few pics and a clip of my start (far outside)
Going up the creek bed with spectators all over the place reminded me of backdoor at KOH.
