Well I got the rear bumper done, but I have not started on the front yet. I bought enough steel to make both bumpers and a set of rock sliders. Here's some pics of the rear. It's made from 4x2in .125 wall mild steel with a recessed hitch reciever and recovery loops. I cut off some of the rear bumper mount, then welded strips of .250 steel to them to bring them in closer to the body. I'll get some better pics once I get it mounted on the jeep and get it out of the shop.

Later,

Darren

id be worried about pulling on that, or towing anything with that receiver if you only reused the stock bolts, especially reusing half of the stock mount

last thing you want is to be stuck and get your only rear recovery points ripped off

look at how reciever hitches are mounted, i would basically copy that, at the very minimum, in addition to the 8 bolts you used to mount it

Worried crap I do not want to be near you if you pull with that bumper..Please add frame supports to bumper for strenght

I'm going to use the old hitch I pulled off of the jeep to run a second bracing setup to the frame, just hack it up a little bit. I'm not going to be pulling anything bigger than a jet ski with it. It will be just as strong a any rear bumper mounted hitch ball on the back of a pick up truck.

And as far as using 1/2 of the stock mount, what's that matter? The metal used in it's place is stronger and properly welded.

i have to agree with these guys...the rear crossmember will pull apart and send that bumper flyin if you use it to be winched or pulled out with. If you do tie it in to a frame mounted hitch that will help. Not trying to knock any of your ideas but I know if I was pulling someone out of a hole or over a rock and thier bumper ripped off and hurt someone i'd be rather upset.

so those 8 bolts are supposed to hold the weight of your entire cherokee or more if you have to get pulled out of rocks/mud/whatever? If you do tie it into the trailer hitch that will be way better, but I'd run some sort of brace to the "frame" as said before.

Nobody is listening to me!!!! I will be using the old hitch, THAT MATES WITH THE FRAME, to attach the bumper to the frame. The old hitch will be used only for it's frame mount brackets and will then be attached to the the new bumper for reinforcement. :bounce2:
