Busted on the powerline "trails"

I am not riding in someones front lawn as one reply implied, and I would have a problem with that too
please, explain to me what the difference is. maybe i value my dirt just as much as you value your grass.:shaking:

you can try to make exscuses as much as you want to with "i've been going there for X amount of years" and "i clean up and tread lightly" but the fact remains it's still trespassing. i applaud you for having a minimal impact when you trespass, but that doesn't change what it is. also, just because the police and land owners might have better things to do than babysit this piece of land doesn't mean they want you there.

look at it like stealing if you want another example. sure, it's probably worse to steal a car than it is to steal a pencil. it's still stealing though.

i hope you can understand we all get a little frustrated with this subject coming up ALL the time. what you and others don't seem to understand is it's not really a debateable subject. the law is very clear as to what constitutes trespassing.

all i really ask is if people are going to do these things, at least don't post about it on a damn public message board. if you feel what you do is okay and plan to keep doing it, fine... just keep it off here.

i'm certainly not some saint, i wheeled at illegal places for years. i just finally realized that what i was doing was wrong and hurtful to our image, despite any opinion i might have of how well i took care of places i went, etc.

sorry if i come off like a blunt asshole, but i get tired of blowing hot air about this all the time.

Well I bring this up every year or two so you understand WHY we are such jerks about this topic.

This 'thread' we are in now happens here 1-2 times a years. About 3-4 years ago, one of the folks on this board had been negotiating with a private landowner about allowing some wheeling on their property.

He had demostrated to the landowner that he was serious, respectful of the land, etc. He even went as far as purchasing (or going thru the process) a piece of adjacent land, that he planned on using to allow fellow wheelers to camp on, etc.

That landowner was "lurking" here on NC4x4 and a powerline topic came up. He read about the folks that were just "going on it anyway" and some similar discussions of this / pictures of illegal wheeling and he decided he could not RISK allowing us on his property.

So this is a case where we had a potential new wheeling spot, that was yanked out from under us, because of a thread and responses very much like this one.

Another couple cases have occurred on land where the Carolina TrailBlazers got permission to ride and the landowner was very happy with the club etc. Others (non members) got wind of the location and started riding there too, and we lost access.

There have been several lawsuits by the "eco-folks" specifically targeting Uhwarrie and other local places and they quote our threads and pictures in their lawsuits.

Another example of property we have lost is Forest Games. A hugely popular ATV set of trails, the landowners charged a small fee for access and were starting to allow 4x4s to go there too.

EPA were notified that folks were crossing the river...the landowners were told to stop access...it is now gone.

So, there are very specific instances, in our state, and others. So this is why we are such jerks about this topic.

Just my 3 cents worth but if by chance the tree huggers or irate land owners are lurking around would it not be better to delete all threads pertaining to "illegal wheeling" ?
